The position conducts safety and health training in compliance with State of Maryland and Federal government requirements. Essential Functions Conducts safety audits on various types of WSSC Water activities and facilities and a variety of required safety training courses Conducts various types of industrial health evaluations and environmental monitoring including, but not limited to: Non-ionization radiation monitoring Lead monitoring in water Noise monitoring Reviews plans for new facilities and recommends accident prevention solutions to the Division Manager, Occupational Safety & Health Develops new safety training courses based on new regulatory requirements or change in WSSC Water policy and/or procedures Revises current training courses based on change in regulatory requirements or WSSC Water policy and/or procedures: HAZMAT/Right-To-Know Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Slip, Trip and Fall Excavation Safety Confined Space - Non-Entry Rescue Defensive Driving Driver Improvement Asbestos Awareness Safety Orientation Work Zone Traffic Safety Ergonomics Respiratory Protection Maintain training information in safety training database Report health concerns to the Occupational Health Nurse and coordinate preventative measures Conduct and/or review accident investigations to determine accident causes and recommend corrective action to prevent similar type of accident(s) Conduct fire and other emergency evacuation drills Review warehouse material specifications for compliance with safety & health requirements Review monthly fire extinguisher inspection records and annual fire evacuation drill records Serve as WSSC Water liaison during facility risk assessment conducted by the general liability carrier (FM Global) Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business Other Functions Creates and distributes a monthly safety talk pamphlet Reviews and purchases safety- and health-related videos Coordinates all safety related activities at assigned locations Provides any safety related support requested Responds to medical or other safety emergencies, including after hours and weekends Assists managers and supervisors in the implementation of the Accident Prevention and Health Programs to comply with the WSSC Water Safety Program Periodic revision of safety and health manual and safety SPs Provides administrative support during DOT physicals and random drug and alcohol testing Serves as project manager for various special project contracts administered by the Safety Section including, but not limited to: Asbestos Inspection and Abatement Activities Indoor Air Quality Assessments Ammonia Exposure Monitoring Lead Inspection and Abatement Activities Performs related duties as assigned Work Environment And Physical Demands Business casual office setting with field visits Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Thorough knowledge of occupational safety concepts, requirements and methods to accomplish set goals Considerable knowledge of the OSHA, MOSH, NIOSH, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ACGIH, and Safety and Health regulations and standards Ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend solutions within the parameters of industrial principles Ability to make timely judgments and recommendations on safety related matters, i.e., excavations, construction, vehicle operation, and use of chemicals Good verbal and written communication skills Minimum Education, Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree 5+ years experience in the safety and health field in an industrial environment Or High School diploma or equivalent 9+ years experience in the safety and health field in an industrial environment Additional Requirements Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer date Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work Preferences Certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or other nationally accredited association Salary $96,038 - $163,523 Posting Detail Information EEO Statement WSSC Water is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
