In this role, the Environmental, Health, and Safety (ESH) Specialist serves as a strategic partner for leading all ESH related topics within the Corporate locations and labs (multi-site responsibility). The ESH role ensures the implementation and continuous improvement of all site programs for Environmental, Health, Safety compliance. This position collaborates with corporate / regional / divisional environmental protection and Health and Safety for conformance to internal and external standards. This includes, but it not limited to the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of the activities, standards, rules, procedures and projects on safety, industrial hygiene, fire protection and environment areas. The ESH Specialist acts as an advisor to all employees from first line supervisors to executive leadership, with an intense focus on building partnerships, coaching and advising, proactive problem solving, and excellent communication to deliver high quality customer service to all internal customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop processes to ensure compliance with internal and external standards including (MIOSHA, EGLE, ISO). Audit locations to ensure compliance with internal and external standards are implemented and/or advises on corrective actions to bring locations to standard. Oversee and Lead all internal and external audits to ensure compliance and successful completion of certifications in the Corporate locations. Ensure the integration of occupational safety and health into the business and locations including regular reporting and review, corrective action monitoring and escalation as appropriate. Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), laboratory risk assessments, and environmental impact reviews. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and near?miss reporting processes. Maintain ESH metrics, dashboards, and reporting for leadership review, trend analysis, and regulatory readiness. Coach and advise managers; lab supervisors and employees on requirements of: Safety and Health Ergonomics Health Environment Toxic Substance Reporting Foster proactive culture of safety and continuous improvement through training and awareness, establishing and maintaining a safety committee review and regular management reviews.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field 5+ years of experience in environmental health and safety roles Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA standards Apply analytical techniques to identify root causes, evaluate risks, and recommend practical solutions Communicate technical and non-technical information clearly and accurately in written reports and verbal discussions Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint - to organize data, document findings, and support decision-making Apply industrial hygiene principles to assess workplace exposures and support health and safety initiatives Interpret and support compliance with waste management, environmental, and regulatory requirements Maintain accurate documentation and manages multiple priorities with attention to detail and organization Manage workload effectively and maintains professionalism in a fast?paced, deadline-driven environment Willingness to travel to various locations as needed (up to 30%) Preferred candidates possess CSP, CIH, CHMM or ASP certification IND1
