This role combines field and administrative responsibilities, ensuring accurate data collection, field verification, and preparation of materials and documentation to support active projects. The Project Assistant plays a key role in maintaining Universal's standards for safety, communication, and operational excellence, assisting in both pre-construction and active job site tasks. This position requires adaptability, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively outdoors in all conditions. Core Responsibilities Field Operations & Support Assist Project Managers and Coordinators with project setup and verification. Perform field data collection, including photos, unit verification, and measurements. White line routes and mark locations as directed. Deliver door tags, customer notifications, and yard signage. Support jobsite organization and field preparation. Construction Assistance Handle, organize, and transport construction materials. Assist with traffic control setup and safety signage. Pull, prep, and load fiber or materials for crews as needed. Support restoration activities and cleanup when required. Operate vehicles or small equipment safely and efficiently. Safety & Compliance Participate in daily safety meetings and follow all safety procedures. Complete safety verification checklists for job readiness. Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or potential hazards immediately. Use and maintain PPE as required by Universal's safety policy. Communication & Documentation Communicate with field leadership and project staff daily. Submit collected data, pictures, and forms through digital reporting tools. Assist in maintaining organized project documentation and records. Provide feedback to supervisors regarding field conditions and progress. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Proficiency with smartphones, tablets, and basic computer applications. Strong communication and organizational skills. Preferred Skills Prior construction or telecom experience. Familiarity with utility marking and white lining processes. Ability to read basic maps and project drawings. Knowledge of basic safety procedures and field equipment. Physical Demands & Competencies Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting (50-60 lbs.). Field-based position requiring year-round outdoor work. Must work safely in proximity to equipment, vehicles, and active job sites. Strong attention to detail, dependability, and initiative. Work Schedule Full-time, non-exempt position. Monday-Friday, with flexibility for evenings or weekends as needed. Regular and punctual attendance is essential. Training & Development Expectations New Competencies Learn Universal's construction processes and project workflows. Gain proficiency in Smartsheet, Mission Control, and field documentation tools. Build confidence in field verification, communication, and customer interaction. Reinforce safety awareness and jobsite professionalism. Ongoing Refreshers Annual safety and compliance training through HSI/LMS. Field safety audits and on-the-job training reviews. Continued development in job tracking and reporting tools. Participation in crew meetings and company-wide initiatives.
