LOCATION
Springfield Campus with travel required to all college campus and center locations. Position Summary The Environmental Safety and Compliance Coordinator ensures OTC is compliant with applicable federal and state regulations for hazardous waste, chemical storage and handling, and biological and biohazardous waste disposal. Essential Job Duties Maintains compliance with all environmental laws, statutes, rules and regulations by maintaining an appropriate central storage site on each campus or center, coordinating/performing the transporting of the College's hazardous waste to the appropriate storage site and coordinating periodic waste removal activities involving commercial waste disposal vendors. Serves as the contact person for regulatory agencies (i.e. Federal EPA, and State DNR) in matters of hazardous waste compliance. Responsible for completed and submitting all Federal and State required reports in a timely manner. Accompanies regulatory officials on all campus inspections. Oversees the college's Sharps

Develops and maintains applicable policies and procedures for all campuses and centers regarding the storage, handling, disposal, and emergency response for regulated materials. Responds to all emergencies involving hazardous materials, prepares a report of the incident to include recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. Coordinates preplanning and response with corresponding local hazardous materials response agencies for all campuses and centers. Develops and provides training for faculty and staff in techniques and activities necessary to meet environmental safety standards. Drafts responses to regulatory inquiries and makes recommendations regarding environmental compliance. Makes recommendations regarding the reduction, reuse, or recycling of regulated wastes generated by OTC. Provides information on current conditions and management practices needing improvement in order to maintain environmental compliance. Conducts regular in person inspections of hazardous waste generation areas and provides compliance guidance in writing to the responsible party. Maintains service agreements and contacts with the commercial waste disposal vendors and recommend changes as necessary. Arranges for disposal of hazardous waste with the appropriate commercial hazardous waste disposal vendor as necessary and oversees the transfer of waste to the commercial hazardous waste vendor. Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Bachelor's Degree in a science, engineering, or related field; OR four (4) years of relevant work experience. Valid Missouri driver's license. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience handling filled hazardous materials containers as demonstrated by past experience, certifications and/or training. Ability to travel between OTC locations as needed for assignments. Ability to work weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays; be on-call as needed. Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to hold and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite). Be RCRA and DOT certified, or be able to become certified, and any other required certifications within 90 days of hiring and maintain the certification throughout the duration of employment. Familiarity with applicable Federal and State Regulations. Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety. Previous work experience involving RCRA Compliance, hazardous materials/waste disposal, safety, and emergency response. Previous work experience in a college environment.
