Job Description
Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) - Heavy Civil Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to support heavy civil construction projects across the country. This role is responsible for implementing and managing project safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA and USACE requirements, and promoting a strong culture of safety on active construction sites. The ideal candidate has prior experience on USACE projects and a strong background in heavy civil construction. Experience with marine construction and/or bridge construction projects is highly preferred. This position requires full-time travel. Responsibilities Oversee daily site safety operations on heavy civil construction projects. Ensure compliance with
OSHA, EM
385-1-1, USACE, and company safety standards. Conduct safety meetings, inspections, audits, and training sessions. Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to maintain safe work environments. Maintain project safety documentation, reports, and incident records. Work closely with project management, field crews, subcontractors, and clients. Investigate incidents and support root cause analysis and corrective action plans. Promote a proactive safety culture across all job sites. Qualifications Prior SSHO experience on USACE projects required. Experience in heavy civil construction required. Marine construction and/or bridge construction experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations andEM 385-1-1
requirements. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to work in fast-paced field environments. OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety certifications preferred. Willingness and ability to travel full-time.
