Job Description

FIELD SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE
  • Structural Steel Erection Position Summary Piedmont Steel Company, LLC (PSC) is seeking an experienced Field Safety Representative to support multiple structural steel erection projects throughout the Southeastern United States.
This is a field-based position requiring frequent travel to active construction sites, with primary work currently located in Northern Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The Field Safety Representative is responsible for promoting PSC's safety culture by monitoring field operations, ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and customer requirements, while working directly with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews. This position is intended for someone with real-world structural steel erection experience who understands the unique hazards associated with steel erection, cranes, rigging, decking, welding, connecting, fall protection, and material handling and a working knowledge of OSHA Sub Part R. Primary Responsibilities Field Safety Oversight Conduct routine and unannounced safety inspections on active jobsites. Observe ongoing work activities and identify unsafe acts or conditions. Coach employees on proper work practices and immediately address safety concerns. Assist project management with implementing corrective actions. Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, AISC, customer, and PSC safety requirements. Support incident investigations, near misses, and corrective action implementation. Promote PSC's safety-first culture through positive leadership and field presence. Multi-Site Support Travel to multiple jobsites each week as assigned. Provide safety coverage for new project startups and critical operations. Assist projects requiring additional safety support during high-risk activities. Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen regarding project-specific safety needs. Documentation & Compliance Maintain and audit all required safety documentation, including: Daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) Pre-Task Plans Toolbox Talks Daily Safety Briefings Site Orientation Records Equipment Inspection Logs Crane Inspection Documentation Forklift Inspection Documentation Aerial Lift Inspection Documentation Rigging Inspection Documentation Incident Reports Near Miss Reports Corrective Action Reports Training Administration Ensure all field personnel maintain current training and certifications, including but not limited to: OSHA Training Fall Protection Aerial Lift Forklift Signal Person Qualified Rigger Crane User Requirements Silica Awareness Fire Watch First Aid / CPR (when applicable) Customer-specific orientation requirements Maintain accurate training records and coordinate refresher training before certifications expire. Equipment & PPE Conduct routine inspections to verify: Weekly PPE inspections are completed and documented. Fall protection equipment remains compliant and serviceable. Safety cables, anchors, and lifelines are properly installed. Ladders and access equipment are in acceptable condition. Rigging equipment has current inspection documentation. Defective rigging is immediately removed from service. Cranes, forklifts, welders, generators, and other equipment have completed required daily inspections. Defective equipment is immediately removed from service. Administrative Responsibilities Prepare written inspection reports. Submit safety observations and recommendations. Track corrective actions through completion. Maintain organized project safety files. Communicate effectively with customers and general contractors regarding safety matters. Qualifications Required Minimum 5 years of structural steel erection experience. Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards. Ability to recognize hazards associated with structural steel erection. Strong communication and leadership skills. Ability to travel full-time as projects require. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to work at heights and safely access active construction sites. Preferred
OSHA 500
Trainer Certification. OSHA 30 Construction. Current First Aid / CPR certification. Competent Person training. Fall Protection Competent Person. Signal Person Qualification. Qualified Rigger. Crane safety experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish). CHST certification is welcomed but is not required. Applicants with significant structural steel field experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Physical Requirements Walk active construction sites daily. Climb ladders and structural steel. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Lift up to 50 pounds. Wear required personal protective equipment at all times. Why Join PSC?   • 125,000 Actual compensation will be based on structural steel erection experience, safety certifications, travel availability, leadership ability, and overall qualifications.
