Job Title:
Safety Technician Job Description Join a major capital expansion project as a key player in ensuring a safe, compliant, and successful startup. As the EHS & Utilities Specialist , you'll be at the center of construction, installation, and early operational readiness—balancing detailed desktop reviews with hands-on field verification. Your work ensures that safety systems, utilities, and life-safety infrastructure are installed correctly, accessible, and fully functional. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, thrives in dynamic environments, and has a strong commitment to safety. You'll collaborate closely with Project Management, Construction, Engineering, Facilities, and Site EHS teams, making a direct impact on the safety and readiness of a growing site. Responsibilities Review environmental, health, safety, and utility documentation to determine inspection and verification needs throughout the expansion project. Conduct routine field walkdowns to confirm proper installation and readiness of safety signs, emergency egress routes, fire extinguishers, fire alarm devices, notification systems, eyewash stations, and safety showers. Identify gaps or non‑compliant conditions and communicate findings to project and site stakeholders. Track corrective actions and support the closeout of safety‑related punch list items. Verify utilities and building systems essential for safe operation, including water, compressed air, gas, ventilation, and emergency systems. Confirm proper labeling, access, signage, and basic safety requirements for utility infrastructure. Perform initial triage and resolution of issues involving alarms or panels. Partner with Engineering, Facilities, and Construction teams to ensure utilities are safe and ready for commissioning and startup. Review drawings, layouts, safety checklists, inspection logs, and other project documentation to plan and prioritize inspections. Use electronic systems, spreadsheets, and document repositories to track inspections, findings, and corrective actions. Prepare clear written summaries, inspection notes, and status updates for project leadership and Site EHS. Interface with contractors and vendors during site walks to reinforce safety expectations and resolve issues. Support project safety meetings, inspections, and readiness reviews. Ensure alignment with site EHS standards and regulatory requirements. Essential Skills Strong computer skills, including Teams, Outlook, Excel, and applications similar to SAP. Experience performing on‑site safety checks (exit signs, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, etc.). Troubleshooting experience, especially with triaging issues involving safety panels. Familiarity with EHS and SAP systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a safety‑focused role within construction or a similar environment. Strong problem‑solving abilities and exceptional attention to detail. Work Environment This on‑site role in Clayton offers a balanced mix of desk work (30%) and field activity (70%), giving you both variety and hands‑on engagement. The position operates during standard business hours with flexibility within core hours, typically between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM . Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Clayton, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
