Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two (2) weeks of closing date. • Why does the job exist? This position supports District Three's Safety and Loss Control programs to protect employees and the traveling public. The role ensures strict adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), federal, state, and New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) safety directives and statutory requirements. How does it get done? Performs facility and worksite inspections. Conducts hazard assessments, job safety analysis, and crew safety meetings. Conducts First Aid/CPR, Defensive Driving and OSHA trainings. Responds to safety and security related incidents on Department premises. Who are the customers? Internal employees and external customers. Ideal Candidate Internal employees and external customers. Minimum Qualification High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a risk management or a safety-related field (e.g., loss control, safety, and Workers' Compensation case management activities and workplace inspections). Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and driver's license verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. Must become a certified instructor with the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course and First Aid/CPR. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting and outdoors. Office work includes working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers. Subject to call-out for accidents and/or emergencies on short notice. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside work in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high speed/high volume traffic, loud noises, and stressful situations. Interaction with the public, local, county, and city officials by phone or in person. Occasional travel with possible overnight stays away from post of duty. May be required to work irregular hours.
