Job Title:
EHS Specialist Job Description The EHS Specialist conducts comprehensive health, safety, and environmental audits, produces detailed reports, and delivers actionable recommendations to enhance facility safety performance. This role provides visible safety leadership on site, supports regulatory compliance, and partners closely with site leadership to strengthen safety culture, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement in all HSE-related matters. Responsibilities Serve as a visible safety leader within the facility, consistently modeling and reinforcing a strong, positive safety culture for all employees and contractors. Support site leadership in communicating safety initiatives, policies, procedures, and performance expectations across the organization. Facilitate regular safety engagements, including daily or weekly toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety observations to promote safe behaviors and hazard awareness. Monitor compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards. Support the implementation and maintenance of required permits, plans, and regulatory records to ensure ongoing compliance. Conduct scheduled compliance reviews to identify deficiencies, document findings, and drive timely corrective actions. Perform regular hazard assessments and job safety analyses (JSAs) to proactively identify and evaluate risks in facility operations. Develop and support corrective action strategies to address identified risks and reduce the likelihood of incidents and near misses. Track and trend incident and observation data to anticipate future hazards and implement preventive measures. Conduct routine site inspections focused on equipment, processes, work practices, and worker behaviors to identify unsafe conditions or practices. Lead and execute comprehensive HSE audits, documenting findings, nonconformances, and opportunities for improvement. Perform follow-up inspections to verify the completion and effectiveness of corrective actions and to ensure sustained compliance. Audit environmental-related matters and provide guidance and recommendations for environmental performance improvements. Prepare and deliver detailed audit reports, including safety metrics, root-cause analyses where applicable, and photo documentation. Recommend operational improvements aligned with industry best practices to enhance safety, health, and environmental performance. Support continuous improvement initiatives, including enhancements to safety training, procedures, and work processes. Report directly to safety leadership to ensure alignment with organizational HSE objectives and strategies. Provide regular updates, consultation, and strategic guidance to the site lead on safety performance, risks, and improvement initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address safety issues, develop practical solutions, and support effective implementation. Act as an on-site resource focused on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and proactive safety leadership, reinforcing company safety culture and risk-reduction initiatives. Essential Skills At least 10 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) roles. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a closely related discipline. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements. Solid understanding of EPA and other applicable environmental regulations. Proven experience developing, implementing, and supporting safety programs. Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct HSE audits and compliance reviews. Hands-on experience with regulatory compliance, including permits, plans, and recordkeeping. Experience conducting hazard assessments and job safety analyses (JSAs). Ability to analyze, track, and trend incident and safety data to identify patterns and preventive actions. Strong communication skills to effectively lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety engagements. Ability to collaborate with site leadership and cross-functional teams to resolve safety issues and implement solutions. Experience providing recommendations and guidance to improve safety culture and operational safety performance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in environmental health or environmental health and safety (EHS). Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to safety training and process optimization. Ability to prepare clear, detailed reports with metrics, root-cause analysis, and photo documentation. Demonstrated capability to act as a visible and proactive safety leader in an operational facility. Experience working in contract or project-based HSE roles is beneficial. Work Environment This is an on-site role based in Las Vegas, Nevada, at an industrial facility. The position is structured as a 6‑month contract-to-hire opportunity. The typical schedule is 5 days per week at 8-10 hours per day, with overtime per week paid at time and a half. The environment involves regular presence on the facility floor, conducting inspections, audits, and observations around equipment, processes, and active operations. The role requires adherence to standard safety practices and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment as dictated by site conditions and tasks. The work setting emphasizes a strong safety culture, collaboration with site leadership, and continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Las Vegas, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $63.00/hr.
