This role is primarily field based and is responsible for reinforcing safe work practices across active construction and service job sites in Reno, Nevada and surrounding areas. The Safety Specialist works closely with field leadership to promote accountability, compliance, and a culture where safety is a core value. Because this role will operate independently in Reno, the Safety Specialist is expected to exercise sound judgment, communicate clearly with field teams, identify and escalate serious safety concerns, and follow through on corrective actions.

Exempt Responsibilities Training and Field Engagement Facilitate new hire safety onboarding and orientation. Deliver toolbox talks and lead routine safety meetings in the field. Provide ongoing field-based safety training to employees as needed. Reinforce safety expectations and company standards with foremen, superintendents, and field employees. Coach employees and field leaders on safe work practices, PPE usage, hazard recognition, and company expectations. Promote a proactive safety culture through consistent job site presence and engagement. Serve as a local safety resource for Reno field employees and leadership. Field Safety Oversight Conduct routine and unannounced job site visits to observe work practices and verify compliance with company and OSHA standards. Perform safety audits, inspections, and job hazard analyses. Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work directly with supervisors to implement corrective actions. Recommend corrective actions based on company policy, OSHA standards, and field conditions. Track and follow up on open safety items to ensure timely resolution. Identify recurring hazards, unsafe behaviors, and compliance gaps, and communicate concerns to Safety leadership. Escalate serious safety concerns when conditions present risk to employees, customers, or the company. Incident Management Assist with incident, injury, property damage, vehicle, and near miss investigations. Gather facts, interview employees and supervisors as needed, and support accurate incident documentation. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development. Ensure documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner. Monitor corrective measures to help prevent recurrence. Track corrective action completion and escalate unresolved items as needed. Compliance and Administration Support OSHA and company safety compliance efforts. Maintain accurate safety records, inspection logs, training documentation, and incident reports. Assist with maintaining safety program documentation. Support internal and external safety audits. Assist with customer safety requirements and site-specific safety documentation as needed. Help manage PPE inventory and ensure proper usage in the field. Partner with Safety leadership to support company safety initiatives and process improvements. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. OSHA 10 certification required. If not currently certified, must obtain within 30 days of hire. OSHA 30 certification preferred. If not currently certified, must obtain within 6 months of hire. First Aid and CPR certification required or must obtain within 60 days of hire. 1 to 3 years of construction, mechanical construction, service, or field experience preferred. Prior safety experience in construction or a field based environment preferred. Strong interest in workplace safety and regulatory compliance required. Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with field employees, supervisors, and leadership required. Ability to address unsafe behavior professionally and directly. Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting tools required. Valid driver's license required with the ability to travel to various job sites as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, use stairs, and navigate active construction environments. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to work in areas with uneven surfaces, active equipment, and changing field conditions. Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high visibility vest, and steel toe boots. Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work Environment This position is primarily field based and located in Reno, Nevada. The role will require regular travel to construction and service job sites in Reno and surrounding areas. The position may require early mornings, occasional schedule adjustments, and time spent in active construction environments.
