Environmental Health and Safety Officer Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) -
East Meadow, NY Salary:
$100,400/yr Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) , a 530-bed academic teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center, is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Officer . This critical role will lead and oversee environmental health, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance programs across our healthcare facilities to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive safety management programs, with a focus on The Joint Commission's Environment of Care (EC) and Life Safety (LS) standards.
Hazard & Waste Management:
Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, including biomedical, chemical, and pharmaceutical waste streams.
Training & Education:
Design and deliver comprehensive employee safety training, including general orientation, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and emergency response protocols.
Prepare detailed technical reports, maintain critical compliance documentation, and present data to safety committees.
Compliance & Accreditation:
Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory and accrediting agencies (The Joint Commission, NYSDOH, OSHA, EPA, and DEC). Ensure continuous readiness for all safety-related inspections.
Qualifications Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least five (5) years of experience developing and implementing environmental health and safety (EHS) programs; OR Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biological Science, or a related field and at least four (4) years of related experience. Preferred (But Not Required): Professional certifications such as Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Strong knowledge of healthcare safety regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex compliance data.
