Job Description
Position Summary The Safety Assistant is responsible for supporting workplace safety programs through the management, distribution, tracking, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety supplies. This role helps ensure employees have access to properly fitting, compliant, and serviceable safety equipment while supporting Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives, safety compliance activities, inventory control, and safety documentation. The position works closely with field personnel, supervisors, contractors, vendors, and EHS staff to promote a safe and compliant work environment. Key Responsibilities PPE Management & Distribution Issue appropriate PPE based on job tasks, work areas, and applicable safety requirements Verify employee identification and maintain accurate records of PPE issuance, returns, exchanges, and replacements Assist employees with proper sizing, fitting, and selection of safety equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirators, safety vests, and protective footwear Monitor PPE condition and replace damaged, defective, or expired equipment as necessary Inventory Control & Supply Management Maintain accurate PPE and safety supply inventory through cycle counts and physical inventory audits Enter, update, and track inventory transactions in designated inventory management systems Monitor stock levels and initiate purchase requests when inventory reaches reorder points Receive, inspect, verify, and stock incoming PPE and safety supply shipments Rotate inventory according to manufacturer recommendations and expiration requirements Safety Support & Compliance Support EHS personnel with safety inspections, audits, compliance activities, and corrective action tracking Assist with new-hire onboarding and safety orientation activities, including PPE distribution Maintain safety records, PPE documentation, inventory reports, and training-related records Coordinate with supervisors and EHS personnel regarding PPE requirements for projects, contractors, and job hazard analyses Follow OSHA regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety requirements Operational Responsibilities Maintain a clean, organized, and properly labeled PPE supply room and storage areas Communicate PPE requirements and safety information to employees as directed Assist with preparation of reports, spreadsheets, and safety-related documentation Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, inventory management, and operational efficiency Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support safety, compliance, and operational objectives Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Previous experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, safety support, or a related field preferred Basic computer skills, including data entry and experience with inventory management, ERP, or safety software systems Working knowledge of PPE requirements, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety practices preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills Ability to maintain accurate records and manage inventory data Ability to interact professionally with employees, contractors, vendors, and management Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds with assistance Ability to work in warehouse, office, and active job site environments as needed Success Factors Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety Effective communication and customer service skills Ability to maintain accurate inventory and documentation records Well-organized work habits and efficient supply room management Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Commitment to safety compliance and continuous improvement Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
