DESOTEC is now hiring a Health and Safety Specialist
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by proactively identifying risks, implementing safety policies, and fostering a culture of safety. The Safety Specialist will help in oversight of DESOTEC's Health and Safety programs for our Darlington (Pennsylvania), Red Bluff (California), Houston (Texas) and Parker (Arizona) facilities as well as mobile operations to achieve compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations as well as company policies and procedures. This role reports to the lead US SHEQ Manager and works closely with the Plant Managers in all locations. There will be intensive travel between all locations.
Core Responsibilities and Tasks
Maintain safety policies and procedures.
Create training programs to educate employees on established safety standards and practices.
Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.
Stay updated on local, state, and federal safety regulations, and ensure the organization meets or exceeds these regulatory requirements.
Conducts risk assessments and identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
Ensure that all incidents and near misses are investigated to identify root causes and that proper corrective actions are implemented.
Promotes a proactive approach to safety throughout the organization focusing on leadership and employee engagement.
Ensures that relevant policies and procedures are current and in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Provide guidance on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Implementation and use of safe work permit programs (i.e., confined space, hot work, LOTO, JSAs, working from heights)
Routine inspections of safe work permit programs to determine effectiveness.
Coordinates all onboardings to ensure proper environmental, health and safety training and PPE assignments.
Conducts/organizes misc. trainings on quality, environmental, health and safety procedures. (e.g., forklift, confined space, LOTO, HAZWOPER, DOT HazMat, Arc flash).
Compliance support with site-specific environmental permits, plans, and reporting obligations.
Conducts EHS, and quality inspections and audits. Collaborates with team members to identify, prioritize, perform, and track corrective actions as needed.
Provide support on behavior-based safety programs and processes to monitor and improve safety performance.
Completes other duties as necessary to support the team and organizational objectives, as directed by the supervisor(s).
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in OHS or related field preferred; relevant technical experience accepted in lieu of degree. Minimum 3 years of OHS experience (water/wastewater processing, hydrocarbon processing, or air/gas processing, or emissions control preferred) Valid driver's license and ability to travel (up to 50%) Strong organizational and time management skills, able to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication skills, including preparation and development of clear, concise and accurate reports. Mature judgement and decision-making ability. Ability to establish, maintain and foster a positive and harmonious working relationship with stakeholders within the business. Preferred Qualifications Experience with activated carbon, industrial filtration, environmental remediation, emissions treatment, or related technologies.
