Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to join our team at the Summit Bridge near Wilmington, DE. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing safety programs on federal construction projects, ensuring compliance with US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
EM 385-1-1, OSHA
regulations, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
This position requires the worker to be on the site (no remote).
Implement and oversee the project's Accident Prevention Plan (APP) in accordance with
EM 385-1-1
standards.
Review/Approve Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and ensure crews understand AHAs before work.
Conduct daily safety inspections and ensure the worksite complies with
OSHA, EM
385-1-1, and company safety policies.
Authority to stop work when unsafe conditions are identified.
Develop and lead project-specific safety training and toolbox talks for on-site personnel.
Monitor compliance with fall protection, and other hazard-specific requirements.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and ensure proper documentation and corrective actions are taken.
Maintain accurate safety records, including daily safety logs, training certifications, and inspection reports.
Serve as the point of contact for safety-related issues, liaising with site management, subcontractors, and federal representatives.
Conduct and document weekly safety meetings with project stakeholders.
Provide weekly safety reports to the Corporate Director of Safety.
Required Qualifications SSHO candidate must meet
EM 385-1-1 SSHO
qualifications
Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience, with at least 3 years on projects requiring
EM 385-1-1
compliance (in the past 10 years)
Must meet
EM 385-1-1 SSHO
continuing education requirements (minimum 24 hours of documented safety training within the past 5 years)
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Card (required)
First Aid/CPR certified (required)
ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification
24-hour Competent Person for Fall Protection training that complies with
EM 385-11
section 21
Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, multi-tasking, communication and conflict management skills
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to enforce safety policies effectively
Strong understanding of
EM 385-1-1, OSHA
standards, and hazard analysis processes.
Proficiency in creating and maintaining safety documentation, including incident reports and training records
Computer knowledge in sending emails, daily reports, construction look-ahead schedules, and SmartPhone/tablet use
Strong work ethic with a passion to fulfill commitments

Work will also require working from heights, working on and over water, varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment
A pre-employment drug screen, physical, & functional capacity exam are required.
Preferred Experience Previous experience on lock and dam, or heavy civil projects.
Knowledge of federal safety regulations and environmental compliance.
Experience with lead coatings removal
Preferred Certifications Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
Safety Trained Supervisor (STS)
