POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety Generalist is responsible for supporting and promoting the Company's safety culture through the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of safety programs, policies, and procedures across operational sites. This role assists in ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and Company safety standards while partnering closely with Operations, Fleet, Human Resources, and employees to reduce workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, and unsafe conditions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Compliance and Inspections Conduct routine site inspections, yard inspections, shop inspections, and route observations to identify unsafe acts or conditions. Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and Company safety requirements. Assist with maintaining safety records, logs, inspections, and compliance documentation. Monitor employee adherence to PPE requirements and safe work practices. Participate in audits and regulatory inspections as needed. Incident and Accident Management Assist in the investigation of workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, spills, and vehicle incidents. Gather statements, photographs, videos, and supporting documentation for investigations. Track corrective actions and ensure timely completion by Operations leadership. Support root cause analysis and development of preventive measures. Maintain accurate incident reports and safety metrics. Training and Employee Support Conduct safety orientations for new hires and transferred/promoted employees. Coordinate and facilitate safety trainings, toolbox talks, and refresher trainings. Promote employee engagement and positive safety culture initiatives. Assist supervisors with safety-related coaching and disciplinary documentation when applicable. Support implementation of Company safety initiatives and programs. Field Operations Support Maintain regular presence at operational sites, transfer stations, landfills, shops, and field locations. Perform ride-alongs and route observations for drivers and helpers. Support Operations during high-risk activities or emergency situations. Assist in monitoring housekeeping and 5S initiatives throughout facilities. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Human Resources, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven safety, operations, industrial, transportation, or environmental experience preferred. Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other applicable health and safety standards. Intermediate Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Valid driver's license. Fully Bilingual (English/ Spanish). Effective interpersonal communication skills across various levels of the organization, external customers, and agencies. Ability to write reports and correspondence with minimal direction. Excellent organizational skills include the ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, maintaining attention to detail, while meeting deadlines. Strong customer service orientation skills. A professional safety certification through a nationally recognized safety organization, such as the National Safety Council or a college degree in Safety Management. Preferred Certifications- OSHA, CPR, Smith System, Forklift Trainer and/or additional certification are a plus.
