We also have locations in Chattanooga TN, Knoxville TN, Louisville KY, Bowling Green KY, Atlanta GA, Huntsville AL, Birmingham AL, Phenix City AL, Loxley AL, FL Panhandle, Denver CO, Colorado Springs CO, and Cheyenne WY.
Job Summary:
The Safety Specialist reports to the Safety Director and is responsible for bridging the gap between safety compliance and field execution. This role requires a "leader by example" who can effectively communicate with both executive leadership and field crews. You will support the Safety Director in managing documentation, conducting site audits, and instilling an initiative-taking safety culture.
Responsibilities:
Build relationships with Management Teams, Supervisors, and field employees to promote and maintain a safe workplace. Perform job site visits and safety audits to ensure adherence to OSHA and company standards, providing "on-the-spot" coaching to correct unsafe behaviors. Reinforce safety awareness by leading by example through personal contact with employees, building trust and rapport to ensure safety is viewed as a core value. Collaborate with the Safety Director to create, review, and implement Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to ensure site-specific risks are mitigated before work begins. Assist location leaders in organizing and conducting impactful safety meetings. Identify safety and health training needs; assist in developing, updating, and delivering company-wide safety training materials to ensure full compliance and competency. Reinforce the Driver Recognition Safety Program, ensuring safe driving behaviors are celebrated and incentivized. Review data entered in the Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure complete information and assist in following up on incidents. Maintain
OSHA 300
logs and ensure all required records are complete and accurate. Assist in reviewing workers' compensation claims and function as a liaison for insurance adjusters. Serve as the primary point of contact for safety vendors and maintain inventory levels for all PPE and safety equipment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical field is required. 1-2 years of experience in the construction industry is preferred, specifically within the concrete sector (formwork, silica compliance, etc.). OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction certification is highly preferred. Familiarity with DOT regulations is a significant plus. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is strongly preferred. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with safety database management. Excellent communication skills for delivering training, leading meetings, and collaborating with diverse teams. Ability to connect with field employees and influence behavior through positive interaction.
