Comprehensive Medical/Dental/Vision; 401(k) (fully vested at year one; up to 4% company match for deferrals of 5%+); PTO; paid holidays; paid bereavement; educational assistance for industry-related certifications Job SummaryThe EHS Specialist supports the execution and continuous improvement of Austin Wood Recycling's Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fleet Safety programs. This highly field-oriented role partners with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to promote safe, compliant, and consistent work practices across assigned locations. The EHS Specialist plays a critical role in driving safety culture, regulatory compliance, and operational risk reduction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support implementation and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, and fleet safety programs. Lead or support accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking. Support incident response activities and accompany employees to medical appointments when required. Develop and deliver EHS and fleet safety training for employees and supervisors. Conduct field inspections, audits, and compliance observations across yard and job site locations. Support compliance with FMCSA and environmental regulations (including TCEQ). Assist with documentation, reporting, and audit preparation. Maintain regular field presence to observe operations and support frontline teams. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership to resolve safety and compliance issues. Serve as a subject matter expert in environmental, health, safety, and fleet safety compliance. Required Qualifications Associate's degree in a safety-related discipline preferred (equivalent experience considered). EHS professional certification preferred (ASP, CHST, OHST, or other BCSP credential). Experience in industrial, construction, transportation, recycling, or similar operational environments. Strong written and technical communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Valid driver's license with ability to travel independently throughout assigned region. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting FMCSA compliance and fleet safety programs. Experience supporting environmental compliance programs (TCEQ or similar regulatory bodies). Prior field-based safety leadership experience. Work Environment / Schedule Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Early mornings (6:30 a.m.) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for safety meetings. On-call for incidents as needed. Regular presence at yard locations and job sites, often beginning around 6:00 a.m. Field and office-based work including outdoor environments, uneven terrain, equipment exposure, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
