Job Description

Grays Harbor College is now accepting applications for a Campus Safety and Security Coordinator. The coordinator is responsible for the public safety and security concerns on the College's main campus and off campus education centers. The Coordinator ensures college policies related to safety, security and parking are enforced, and works with campus departments to promote compliance with safety, security and parking rules and regulations. The Coordinator acts as the college liaison to outside agencies which include: local police and fire departments; city and county emergency services coordinating agencies; and other state and federal agencies for emergency coordination and training, as well as safety and compliance issues. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations. Typical hours for this position will be 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with flexibility to be on call nights and weekends. Grays Harbor College has an excellent benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, primary and supplemental retirement programs and long-term disability insurance. Full-time employees will also receive 15.34 hours of vacation leave per month, 8 hours of sick leave per month and 4 personal leave days a year. Washington state also observes 11 paid holidays per year. This position at Grays Harbor College has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. Maintain high visibility on campus and interact effectively with all members of the college community in support of safety and security. Act as a resource for addressing safety and security concerns. Respond to after hour alarms and help maintain on call coverage. Provide security coverage for college functions. May act as incident commander for all safety or security emergencies. Liaison with local police and fire departments. Represent the institution as liaison with all outside emergency services enforcement agencies. Keep current with National Incident Management System (NIMS) guidelines, and serve as GHC liaison for NIMS. Develop, revise and update disaster, emergency response and evacuation plans. Implement training of the campus emergency action plan; identify the training needs of staff; provide training on safety and emergency procedures, and evacuations. Conduct periodic drills. Maintain safety-training records. Investigate all criminal activity, violations of campus regulations and local, state and federal statutes. File reports as appropriate on accidents, incidents. In cooperation with college administration, develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of a comprehensive safety program to provide a secure and hazard-free environment for all persons and property associated with the college. Assist the Campus Operations Department with College's key control program. Patrols the campus and building by foot and vehicle. Coordinate the patrolling of all campus parking lots, and enforcement of parking regulations. Responsible for implementation and training for accident prevention plan: make regular inspections of all buildings, noting safety and security deficiencies; make proper notifications to assure compliance with appropriate codes and regulations. Maintain a log of daily, monthly and annual crime statistics in accordance with the Clery Act; and respond to information requests in a timely manner. Responsible for enforcement of the tobacco-use policy. May supervise the work of part-time employees and/or work study students assigned to the Safety and Security department. Must have the ability to climb stairs and steps, stand and sit for extended periods of time, climb ladders, etc. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor's degree in related field AND one year of campus safety and security, law enforcement, or public safety experience. OR an associate's degree in related field AND three years of campus safety and security, law enforcement, or public safety experience. Training and/or experience with emergency services, emergency response planning, as well as vulnerability and threat assessment. Skills in communication and human relations with populations having diverse backgrounds. Possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record Have valid first aid/CPR/AED certifications.
