JOB SUMMARY
Supports the development, implementation, and coordination of school security and safety programs across the school system. Assists with security operations, coordinates crisis and emergency preparedness efforts, and ensures effective implementation of safety procedures in schools and system facilities. Manages and supervises the School Security team, ensuring that staff are effectively supporting schools with security planning, incident response, and safety initiatives. Serves as a key liaison between schools, district leadership, and external public safety partners to maintain a safe and secure learning environment. Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Ability to work flexible schedules Emergencies Evenings/Nights Summer hours
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports the development and maintenance of procedures related to school security, crisis response, and emergency preparedness. Researches and recommends the implementation of security and safety technologies, coordinates the procurement, selection, and implementation of contractual security programs and equipment. Supervises members of the School Security team including Senior Specialists and other assigned staff. Seeks out security and safety grant funding opportunities, applies for grants, and implements grant programs. Works closely with appropriate departments within Anne Arundel County Public Schools to further the cause of school safety and security (ex: Safe and Orderly Schools, Investigations). Maintains collaborative relationships with school administrators, School Resource Officers (SROs), law enforcement, and emergency management agencies. Plans and coordinates the services/activities of all staff assigned to the Office of School Security to include grant-funded positions. Establishes work assignments and priorities for all staff. Presents in-service training programs/workshops for all school system employees relating to the functions/services/procedures of this office. Assists with the coordination and monitoring of security-related equipment such as access control systems, security cameras, and emergency communication systems. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience Five (5) years relevant successful professional experience in facilities management including responsibility for supervision of an educational system's physical plant and school-based operations personnel required; and Three (3) years related experience in a supervisory or management role required; Experience working within a school system or public agency preferred; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Knowledge of school safety and security principles and practices. Knowledge of security principles and emergency management process. Ability to supervise and support professional staff. Ability to communicate effectively with school leaders, staff, students, and community partners. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Understanding of general procurement and project implementation processes. Knowledge of the application and use of various school security related products and equipment. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred). Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for Special Police Professional License issued by Maryland State Police preferred; Hold or be eligible for Certified Protection Professional (CPP) issued by ASIS International preferred; Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and Proof of a good driving record required.
