Our world-class team includes experts in all aspects of spacecraft subsystems design, development, and test, on-orbit operations, and safety. As Director of Security , you will lead a broad range of industrial and operational security functions critical to Intuitive Machines' growth and mission success. You will own DD254 implementation, export control compliance, FOCI mitigation, supply chain security, international partner integration, logistics/transportation security, deployed/launch site security, and executive protection. You will work closely with the Director of Security-West located at the Palo Alto campus who is responsible for physical security of the West coast facilities, and operations of the Security Operations Center (SOC) that will monitor all facilities 24/7. You will be responsible for the physical security management of the remaining U.S. facilities and coordinate with partners and potential acquisitions for other sites worldwide. This is a high-impact role that blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a dynamic NewSpace environment. You will work closely with program teams, engineering, legal, supply chain, and executive leadership to embed security into operations without slowing innovation or mission velocity.
Responsibilities:
DD254
Implementation & Contract Security:
Manage the preparation, review, and implementation of DD Form 254s for classified contracts. Ensure flow-down of security requirements to subcontractors and maintain compliance across all contractual security obligations.
FSO Management:
Manage the FSO and AFSO positions company-wide in alignment with the company's security strategy.
Export Control Compliance:
Coordinate with legal, contracts and procurement on the company's export compliance program (ITAR, EAR). Review and refine policies for technical data exports, foreign person access, international shipments, and licensing requirements. Conduct reviews for launches, partnerships, and technology transfers.
FOCI Mitigation :
Design, implement, and maintain Foreign Ownership, Control, or Influence (FOCI) mitigation strategies, including board resolutions, security control agreements, and ongoing compliance monitoring to protect facility clearances and national security interests.
Supply Chain & International Partner Security:
Assess and mitigate risks in the global supply chain and international partnerships. Conduct security due diligence on vendors, suppliers, and collaborators. Integrate security requirements into contracts and ongoing relationship management.
Logistics & Transportation Security:
Oversee security for the movement of hardware, payloads, and sensitive materials. Develop protocols for secure shipping, chain-of-custody, and in-transit protection, including air, sea, and ground transportation. Continuity of Operations (COOP)
Planning & Management:
Develop, implement, test, and maintain enterprise-wide Continuity of Operations plans to ensure resilience and rapid recovery of critical business functions, mission operations, ground infrastructure, and launch capabilities during disruptions, emergencies, or major incidents.
Deployed Location & Launch Operations Security:
Provide security leadership for launch campaigns, deployed field operations, and remote sites. Develop and enforce security plans for temporary and permanent facilities, including launch sites, ground stations, and international operations.
Executive Security:
Coordinate executive protection, travel security, and dignitary support for high-profile missions, customer engagements, and international travel.
Physical Security Program:
Lead and manage all aspects of the company's physical security program outside California - in close coordination with the Director of Security-West, including facility security, access control systems, CCTV/surveillance, alarms/intrusion detection, and perimeter security for corporate offices, ground stations, launch sites, and deployed field operations.
Program Management & Collaboration:
Serve as a key interface with government security organizations (DCSA, DHS, DoD, State Department, FBI, etc.). Support audits, inspections, and incident response. Drive continuous improvement across all security operations.
Requirements:
8+ years of progressive experience in industrial security, export compliance, and operational security, with at least 4 years in a leadership or management role. Deep experience with international operations, global supply chains, and multi-jurisdictional security environments. Broad expertise across government security agencies, including DHS, DCSA, Department of State, DoD, FBI, and other relevant organizations. Strong working knowledge of
NISPOM, DD254
processes, ITAR/EAR, FOCI mitigation (SCA, SSA, PA), and supply chain risk management. Proven leadership in launch campaign security, logistics security, and executive protection programs. Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or space programs with complex regulatory requirements. Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, International Relations, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CPP, CCEP, or
ITAR/EAR
specialist training) strongly preferred. US citizenship required; active Secret clearance (Top Secret/SCI eligibility preferred) due to classified program support.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to lead in fast-paced, ambiguous environments typical of NewSpace companies or high-growth defense contractors. Exceptional organizational and project management skills with a track record of building scalable security operations programs. Strong communicator who can influence cross-functional teams and senior executives while maintaining collaborative relationships with government partners. Passion for space exploration and a practical understanding of the unique security challenges in spacecraft, launch, and international operations.
