Position Summary:
The Safety and Security Guard supports the day-to-day safety, security, and guest experience operations at Taliesin West. Critical to this role is maintaining a visible, professional presence across the Foundation's 495-acre property to promote safety, protect people and assets, and ensure a safe, secure, and warm welcoming environment for residents, employees, and guests through ongoing observation, assessment, and professional engagement. As a front-line ambassador of safety and hospitality, the Safety and Security Guard monitors site activity, responds to incidents and hazards, documents observations, and supports emergency response efforts. The role follows established policies and procedures and works collaboratively across departments to uphold the Foundation's standards of safety, preservation, and visitor experience. Reporting to the Safety and Security Manager, the Safety and Security Guard is a member of the Public Engagement team and provides a visible, professional presence that supports safety, security, and a welcoming environment at Taliesin West. Security Ambassadors fulfill three core responsibilities: To convey and promote a sense of safety and security for residents, employees, and guests through a professional, courteous, and approachable presence. To help protect physical assets, including buildings, collections, and landscapes, through vigilance, monitoring, and timely response to potential risks. To contribute to a welcoming, concierge-style atmosphere that enhances the overall visitor and employee experience.
Key daily duties include:
Maintain a visible and professional presence throughout Taliesin West to deter unauthorized access and promote safety. Conduct routine patrols of buildings, grounds, office spaces, and public areas to identify potential safety or security concerns. Monitor access points, gates, and visitor areas to ensure compliance with site policies and procedures. Observe, assess, and respond appropriately to incidents, suspicious behavior, safety hazards, or emergencies; escalate concerns as needed. Assist with emergency response procedures, including weather events, wildlife incidents, medical emergencies, evacuations, and coordination with first responders. Protect physical assets by adhering to security and preservation protocols. Provide courteous assistance, information, and direction to guests, staff, and residents. Support special events, after-hours activities, and high-traffic periods by managing crowd flow and safety protocols. Accurately document patrols, observations, incidents, and shift activities in daily logs and reports. Follow all Foundation safety, security, and preservation policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Complete all required safety and security training.
Overall Scope of Essential Functions:
Security strategies: Maintain situational awareness and apply established security strategies to prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
Guest Experience:
Deliver professional, respectful service while ensuring guests adhere to routing, rules, and safety guidelines.
Incident response:
Respond to and document security breaches, emergencies, and safety concerns; assist law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
Operations Support:
Work independently and collaboratively with staff across departments to support site-wide safety and operations.
Integrity and Ethics:
Maintain confidentiality, accountability, and professionalism in accordance with Foundation policies.
Compensation:
This is a regular part-time position with an hourly rate of $18.50.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience in safety, security, and/or guest service roles. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to engage with diverse audiences. Friendly, professional demeanor with attention to detail and sound judgment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to work part-time, 8-hour shifts, up to 24 hours a week, including weekends, evenings, and overnight coverage 24/7. Ability to respond to on-site emergency calls. Physical ability to traverse paved and unpaved desert terrain and stand or walk for extended periods. Valid Arizona Driver's License. At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. No Arizona Department of Public Safety Security Guard Card required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with security operations within a museum, historic setting, or cultural institution. A valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Unarmed Security Guard License. Certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid. De-escalation and conflict resolution skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather and desert environmental conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
