Security Officer

Employees in this role are under general supervision; performs investigations of crimes and accidents, protects property, facilities and citizens through law enforcement techniques; provides escort service; performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned. This position is assigned to 12-hours shifts in the Panama schedule format. Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities): Investigates suspected crimes, reports findings, and arrests suspected individuals Directs and controls traffic, monitors parking operation, and issues parking tickets; investigates accidents Patrols the campus, business office, classrooms, recreational facilities, dormitories, hospital, facility, etc. by foot or motor vehicle while armed with handgun. Performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Ability to attain an Armed Security License Ability to qualify with a Glock 40 cal handgun Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action Knowledge of campus policies, City, and State laws Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Knowledge of geographic area of the campus Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observations, and to determine proper course of action Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public, and other employees Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully with respect for the rights of others Knowledge of effective methods of investigation Ability to learn to operate law enforcement equipment required in the performance of required duties Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and written

Education and Experience Required:

High School Diploma required or 3 -12 months law enforcement work experience preferred Ability to hold and maintain an Armed Security License in the state of Tennessee.
