  • Full-time Position Summary The Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by observing, reporting, deterring, and protecting persons and property, in accordance with all applicable regulations set forth by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and the California Penal Code.
This position involves patrolling assigned areas, preventing unauthorized access, responding to incidents and emergencies, and accurately documenting and reporting incidents to management. Armed Security Officers must maintain a highly visible presence to deter unlawful activity. While carrying a firearm, the Officer must comply with all BSIS regulations, firearms-permit conditions, and all state and federal laws, including: Acting only within the scope of a private person, not as a peace officer. Using force only when lawful, reasonable, and proportional. Carrying only the firearm caliber listed on the valid BSIS-exposed firearms permit. The Officer is expected to maintain professionalism, communicate effectively with management, clients, and the public, and uphold the Company's objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
The Armed Security Officer must possess a current California Guard Card issued by BSIS along with the required BSIS Training Certificates. A valid BSIS-exposed firearms permit (with proper caliber authorization) is required for this position. Annual firearms requalification is required to maintain permit validity. All Officers must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, as shifts can extend up to 12 hours per day. A CPR certification is encouraged. Maintain a reliable, working mobile phone capable of supporting company-approved applications and communication methods. Officers are required to use their mobile device to clock in and out, receive schedules and post instructions, communicate with management and clients, complete digital reports, and perform other job duties essential to daily operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Armed Security Officer must have the ability to: Stand and walk for extended periods during patrols. Walk up and down stairs and navigate uneven surfaces. Bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and twist as needed. Lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Run or move quickly in response to emergencies or alarms. Use hands and fingers for writing reports, operating radios, and handling equipment. See, hear, and speak clearly to observe conditions and communicate effectively. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and lighting conditions common to California worksites. Safely, carry, draw, aim, and deploy a firearm, taser, and baton as required. Wear required duty gear, including firearm, baton, taser, holsters and body armor, for the duration of the shift. Maintain firearm control during physical activity or emergency situations. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
PREFERRED SKILLS
It is highly preferred that the Armed Security Officer have at least one year of law enforcement, security, or military experience. Possession of a BSIS-issued Baton Permit and certification in the use of chemical agents from a BSIS-certified training facility is considered an asset. The Armed Security Officer must have reliable transportation and a working mobile phone. Prior customer service experience is also preferred. The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills, a high level of integrity, and sound judgment. The Armed Security Officer should have a strong foundation of public safety knowledge and security procedures and protocols. This would include the ability to operate security systems and emergency equipment. Training or experience in de-escalation techniques is highly recommended.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective under pressure or in emergency situations. Fast and effective decision-making and communication skills. Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and safety procedures. Proficiency in the safe handling, operation, and maintenance of authorized firearms and equipment. Capacity to patrol areas and respond to emergencies effectively. Strong attention to detail, with solid observational and investigative skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work individually or in a team. Commitment to upholding the law and protecting life and property.
GENERAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Uphold the Company's values and policies, including all safety protocols. 2. Comply with the Employee Handbook and all related policies, including dress code standards. 3. When representing Defendiv, demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and accountability at all times. 4. Complete Daily Activity Reports (DARs) and other required documentation in a timely manner. 5. Assists with client issues or inquiries and provides customer service with professionalism and respect. 6. Communicates to Manager and Client any assignments, updates, and incidents; verbally and in writing 7. Coordinate appropriately with management, safety officials, or emergency responders. 8. Safely operate Defendiv vehicles (if applicable) and report maintenance needs or expired registration. 9. Conduct regular patrols of assigned facilities, including buildings and parking areas, to ensure the safety and security of persons and property and prevent damage or loss. 10. Protects individuals from attacks, harassment, or other unwanted treatment within legal authority. 11. Observe, document, and report signs of criminal activity, safety hazards, or disturbances and investigate incidents within legal authority. 12. Act lawfully in direct defense of life or property in accordance with the California Penal Code. 13. Use authorized security equipment (Batons, OC Sprays, Handcuffs, CCTV, etc.) safely, responsibly, and only as permitted. 14.Document and report all suspicious activities, incidents, and safety concerns to management and clients. 15. Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, incidents, and emergencies per Company protocol. 16. Perform foot and/or vehicle patrols to identify hazards, security risk and unauthorized access. 17. Reports suspicious or criminal activity and emergencies to management and law enforcement when appropriate. 18. Monitor and control access points; verify credentials when required to prevent unauthorized access. 19. Engage professionally and appropriately with individuals attempting to breach security. 20. Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, or medical responders as needed and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. 21. Use firearms or other defensive tools only when lawful, necessary, and authorized by BSIS, and immediately report any use to management. 22. Participate in ongoing training, drills, and annual BSIS firearm requalification. 23. Report any deficiencies in training, equipment, or safety concerns to management in a timely manner. 24.
