Job Description Campus Safety Officer Job Description Summary:
To provide a safe and secure campus environment. Demonstrate leadership and supervision to officers and subordinate staff. Facilitate and encourage respect for the law, campus safety, and institutional policy. Provide a safe environment to foster student learning and development
Minimum Qualifications:
5 years of University Campus Safety / Law Enforcement experience. Extensive interaction with students and college staff.
Ability to work any shift:
days, nights and morning with varying days off. This includes the ability to work holidays. Ability to solve problems and issues as they arise. Campus Safety Officers Preferred Qualifications:
2 plus year experience in safety or security. Experience in college university setting. Familiar with security/fire alarms, two way radios, computers, tablets, CCTV , smartphone devices. PC 832 certification. POST Basic Academy certificate.
Specific Duties:
Duty:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise Campus Safety Officers ensuring correct policy and procedures are followed. Assist officers as necessary to carry out the goals and mission of the Department. Supervises and take a leadership role at critical incidents. Provide officers with support and resources and ensure officers properly address incidents. Promptly notifies on -call manager and reports ongoing emergency mitigation efforts and other pertinent information. Serve as a liaison with management and officer s. Remain at incidents until role of a supervisor is not necessary. Inspect and trouble shoot emergency blue phone towers monthly. Serve as liaison to first responders during disasters such as fires and earthquakes; respond to hazardous materials spills, industrial accidents, emergencies and take appropriate action. Assist and respond to various medical emergencies according to established procedures; perform CPR /First Aid and operate an Automatic External Defibrillator as necessary; respond to emergency medical situations including illnesses, shock, seizures and bleeding; summon medical personnel as needed. Review and approve reports of subordinates.

In Field Patrol the University campus including buildings, grounds and other University property to maintain a safe environment for students, staff and faculty; investigate violations and crimes; issue parking notices, escort university assets, escort persons from campus as necessary; drive a vehicle, electric cart, or ride a bicycle on patrol l, enforce University rules and regulations including the University Parking Regulations, Student Conduct Code, Penal Code, and University regulations. Act as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act. Respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency calls, conduct thorough investigations involving incidents such as medical emergencies, traffic accidents, terrorist threats, bomb threats, workplace violence, domestic violence, crimes, including stalking, felony assault, and other various incidents; Prepare accurate and detailed written reports using the Campus Safety report management software. Respond to requests to reserve parking lots and or spaces at the request of the Transportation Division as needed.

Train and Evaluate Officers as assigned by supervisor. Train and evaluate new Campus Safety Officers in a structured training program. Assist with training and evaluating student workers/dispatchers by providing direction and guidance.

Conduct Operation Functions and Assists Administrated Duties Operate and monitor various campus security and fire systems, including water valves, electric switches and related systems during emergency situations; investigate unusual conditions and take immediate action to reduce danger and possible malfunction of equipment; notify appropriate internal managerial staff and other departments. Provide information and respond to inquiries from students, staff and ors; provide directions to campus locations and information related to university programs and services; perform administrative duties and all other related duties as assigned. Conduct campus safety and security presentations to groups on campus; Verifycredentials of persons on campus and prevent or grant entry where appropriate; escort ors, remove unauthorized persons from restricted areas; secure and open buildings, lock and unlock doors and gates.
