ABOUT A.C.T.
American Conservatory Theater is an essential gathering place that brings artists and communities together to inspire and provoke. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon and Interim Executive Director David Schmitz, A.C.T.'s mission is to engage the spirit of the San Francisco Bay Area, activate stories that resonate, promote a diversity of voices and points of view, and empower theater makers and audiences to celebrate liveness. POSITION PURPOSE
American Conservatory Theater seeks a Safety & Information Ambassador for its administrative offices at 30 Grant Avenue, San Francisco. The Ambassador protects A.C.T. property, and ensures the health, safety and comfort of staff, students, guests and other constituents. The Ambassador opens the building, welcomes visitors, provides basic information about the facilities and programs that occupy the space, and secures the building at the close of business. The position is primarily at night and weekends, will require responsible access to keys and access codes. Minimum shift is four hours. Overtime available for longer shifts. This is a non-exempt, non-benefit position. Although the primary venue for this position will be 30 Grant Avenue, Ambassadors may be called upon to offer similar services at other A.C.T. venues, which include the Strand Theater (1127 Market Street), and the Toni Rembe Theater (415 Geary Street).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Please note that this list is not exhaustive, but rather a representation of job duties. Post is 30 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, monitoring activity on the 7th, 8th and 9th Floor. Primary posting location is the 8th floor lobby, with the responsibility of rounds to other floors. Provide a welcome and informative greeting for all visitors. For entire shift, observe and monitor potential safety hazards or security risks. Assist staff, students and other constituents with access to secure offices, studios, and office supplies. Aid with HVAC adjustments (training provided). Assist with emergency facilities situations when they arise. Provide point of contacts and basic information for A.C.T. programs. Closing responsibilities include closing all doors, shutting off lights, checking thermostats, and locking doors. For entire shift, discern threats to health or safety and take appropriate action. Greet and engage with visitors, students, customers, and patrons. Request unauthorized visitors to leave the building or escort as necessary. Provide information to visitors as it pertains to their business or visit. Assist with evacuation of building in an emergency. At end of shift, write a written summary of the shift, fill out the closing report, and email the closing report to mailing list.
REQUIREMENTS
Report to post on time, and able to complete entire assigned shift. Remain alert and always engaged. Maintain a presentable posture and appearance, wear appropriate clothing and shoes, maintain acceptable hygiene. Ability to engage with people of varying ages from minors to adults. Wear an A.C.T. furnished uniform when necessary. Cell phone use permitted ONLY when communicating post-related issues to supervisor or facilities contact. No eating or drinking except during break.
SCHEDULE
Generally 5:30PM to 10:30PM, Monday-Friday. May be scheduled in rotation for weekend daytime hours (9:00AM- 6:00PM). Additional hours may be accessed by work as a Safety Ambassador at our Theater Spaces.
QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES

This position requires a person with the ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of people, including civic dignitaries, A.C.T. board and staff, patrons, students varying in age from minors to adults, and the public. The Ambassador must be able to respond to any situation that threatens the health and/or safety of visitors, customers, patrons, and staff. Training in first aid/CPR is desirable. Reliability and punctuality are essential to this position.
