Job Summary The Study Security Officer (SSO) is responsible for providing professional security support during confidential client studies, testing events, and field operations. The SSO serves as a visible security presence while maintaining situational awareness, identifying potential threats, safeguarding personnel and assets, and preserving the confidentiality of sensitive client operations. This position requires experienced security professionals capable of exercising sound judgment, adapting to dynamic environments, and working collaboratively with internal teams, client representatives, and fellow security personnel. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide professional security support during assigned study operations, testing activities, and field deployments. Protect the safety and security of study participants, client personnel, equipment, and other designated assets. Maintain a visible yet professional security presence while remaining alert to potential threats or suspicious activity. Conduct surveillance detection and identify behavioral indicators that may present security concerns. Assess developing situations and implement appropriate protective measures. Assist with operational planning and coordinate security activities with supervisors and team members. De-escalate confrontational situations using sound judgment and professional communication. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client operations, proprietary information, and study activities. Complete accurate electronic reports, incident documentation, and chain-of-custody records using approved mobile technology. Share live location information and maintain communication with assigned leadership during mobile operations when required. Provide basic emergency assistance within the scope of training until additional resources arrive. Perform foot patrols and remain physically capable of extended walking and standing throughout assigned shifts. Carry assigned equipment and perform all other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one (1) of the following qualifying backgrounds: o Retired local, county, state, or sheriff's law enforcement officer (preferred). o Retired federal law enforcement officer from the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Marshals Service, or Federal Protective Service (preferred). o Prior/Active local, county, state, or sheriff's law enforcement officer with a minimum of four (4) years of sworn LE experience. o Honorably retired member of the U.S. Armed Forces with a minimum of twenty (20) years of service (preferred). o Honorably discharged member of the U.S. Armed Forces with a minimum of four (4) years of service. o Current Close Protection Officer (CPO) certification from a Trident recognized accrediting organization accompanied with applicable experience. Required Licenses and Certifications Valid driver's license (when operating a vehicle is required). Ability to qualify for rental vehicle use, when required by the assignment. Current Close Protection Officer (CPO) Trident certification, if serving under that qualification and experience. Any client- or state-required security licensing must be maintained throughout employment (California BSIS specifically). Working Environment and Physical Requirements Ability to work in dynamic environments, including corporate campuses, public spaces, and mobile field operations. Willingness to workdays, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as operational requirements dictate. Ability to travel as required by client assignments. Ability to remain alert and maintain professional composure throughout extended operations. Ability to adapt quickly to changing operational requirements while maintaining security effectiveness. Reporting Structure and Classification This position supports Special Projects operations and reports to the assigned Study Security Team leader, Project Leadership, and SP Operations Manager
