Job Description
Job Summary St. Clare's Ministry offers short term respite from the harsh realities of homelessness, poverty, and separation from self and others. St. Clare's is an open every Tuesday for a welcoming, and diverse community that provides physical and spiritual nourishment, clothing, and other support to our guests and volunteers in need. Be available to work from 3:30pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday evenings. Greet guests as they arrive for a hot meal and clothing Since the security guard is one of the first faces our guests see, be friendly and welcoming as guests enter. If a guest tries to enter under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or is being hostile in any way, remove them from the premises without physical force. Kindly inform them that they are welcome back in future weeks if they are sober. Inform the Managing Director(s) if a physical altercation occurs and, if necessary, call 9-1-1. Monitor facilities and help guests find their way to the meal, and let the Managing Director(s) know if a guest does not cooperate in vacating the facilities after closing time. Circulate in order to maintain a warm and friendly presence in the community while discouraging confrontation. Be on call to ensure that operations run smoothly or to assist with any emergencies that might occur during the meal or clothing closet operations. Ask all guests to disperse at the end of operations and invite them to come back for more services next week. The security guard will coordinate with the Managing Director and take "Safe Church" courses.
