POSITION
School Security Officer (Unarmed)
START DATE
August 27, 2026
SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 am -3:00 pm, Newtown High School (With the ability to provide coverage for shifts with short notice and work over-time evenings, weekends, and holidays from time to time)
SALARY RANGE
In accordance with the School Security Officers Contract $24.21/hour with an excellent benefits package
QUALIFICATIONS
 High school diploma or GED  State of CT Guard Card and a valid driver's license  Prior law enforcement or security experience preferred  Computer proficiency  Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to professionally interact with students, parents and staff  Ability to maintain strict confidentiality  Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude  Good physical condition to maintain an active presence in a school environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
 Provide security for the building and grounds of the Newtown Public Schools  Monitor campus parking lots and direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic  Ensure the physical safety and security of the facility by enforcing district policies and procedures  Process visitors, provide walking patrol, and monitor video surveillance covering hallways and other areas of the school and campus  Report and assist in the investigation of vandalism, theft, and other incidents occurring on school property  Document all security activity and generate incident reports as necessary  Provide security for school-sponsored and non-school sponsored events on campus  Proctor in-school suspension (ISS) and detention rooms  Consult and communicate with building administration on a continuing basis  Carry out all facets of the job description consistently and enthusiastically
