Job Description

DC Unarmed SPO ($23/hr.) Securemedy Incorporated is seeking qualified Unarmed Special Police Officers (DC SPO) to support a public charter-school security program in the Washington, DC area. This position supports the school's mission by maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment while fostering positive, respectful interactions with students, staff, families, and visitors. Position Summary The Unarmed Special Police Officer serves as a key member of the school safety team and works in collaboration with school administrators, designated school staff, and contract partners. The SPO provides access control, visitor screening, and general security services in accordance with District regulations, school policies, and contract requirements. Candidates must meet all applicable school system, charter authority, and District health and safety compliance requirements prior to assignment. This role emphasizes prevention, visibility, de-escalation, and professionalism within an educational setting. Job Responsibilities Control access to school facilities during arrival, dismissal, and school hours Enforce visitor sign-in, identification, and access procedures Screen visitors for prohibited items using approved security equipment, as required Maintain a visible, professional presence that supports a safe and welcoming school environment Observe, document, and report security or safety concerns to school administration and appropriate authorities Support emergency procedures, drills, and response protocols Complete required activity logs and incident reports accurately and timely Interact with students in a respectful, age-appropriate, and non-confrontational manner Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during peak hour
Job Requirements:
Active Unarmed DC Special Police Officer (SPO) License Minimum of two (2) years of professional security experience High School Diploma or GED (or higher) Must be 21 years of age or older Experience working in a school or youth-serving environment Strong communication, customer service, and de-escalation skills Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods Valid photo ID, reliable transportation, and working telephone number.
