JOB SUMMARY
This position is considered an essential on-site employee and therefore is required to report to work during the College closures, including inclement weather or emergency situations. This critical role ensures the safety, security, and operational continuity of the College facilities, supporting the institution's ability to resume normal operations efficiently.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serve as a lead resource and primary point of contact for officers during assigned shifts, providing guidance, mentoring, and assistance with problem-solving and complex incidents. Coordinate and monitor post coverage and shift assignments to ensure appropriate security presence across college facilities, events, and activities. Conduct and document building and grounds inspections for safety, lighting, emergency systems, and environmental conditions. Monitor and review security incident reports for completeness and accuracy; ensure timely submission and follow-up. Support and participate in college emergency drills, lockdowns, severe weather preparations, and active threat exercises. Provide operational feedback and recommendations to the security supervisor regarding campus safety trends, equipment needs, and process improvements. Assist with the onboarding and training of new security officers; model professional conduct, customer service, and adherence to policy. Operate and monitor CCTV, access control, and alarm systems; ensure that issues are logged and communicated appropriately. Perform patrols (vehicle, bicycle, or foot) to deter crime, protect life and property, and promote compliance with college policies. Respond to calls for service, including disturbances, medical incidents, and facility access needs; coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency services when required. Support campus events by assisting with crowd management, traffic control, and emergency readiness. Maintain accurate records, logs, and daily activity reports. Promote positive community relations by interacting courteously and professionally with students, employees, and visitors. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of related work experience providing security; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Two (2) years of related work experience, preferably as a college or school security official (military and/or law enforcement experience may substitute for work experience); or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of security operations, patrol techniques, and emergency response procedures. Familiarity with relevant Florida Statutes, the Clery Act, and college public safety practices. Skill in conflict resolution, crisis de-escalation, and customer service. Ability to interpret and follow college rules, procedures, and post orders. Competence in using computers, communication systems, and electronic security tools. Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and exercise sound judgment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of incident reports. Commitment to fostering a safe campus environment. Capacity to act as a role model for professionalism and ethical conduct. Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all interactions with coworkers, clients, and stakeholders. Consistently completes assigned tasks on schedule with minimal supervision. Maintains punctuality and reliability in attendance and work deadlines. Exhibits a proactive and professional attitude in supporting coworkers and contributing to team success. Communicates clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Follows the established chain of command and organizational protocols when addressing concerns or sharing information.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Florida Class D Security License (or ability to obtain within six months). Valid Florida Drivers License. FEMA ICS-100, ICS-700, ICS-904, and ICS-907 certifications (required within six months of hire). CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain within six months).
