Job Description
Position Summary :
Under the supervision of the Security Sergeant, the Court Security Officer performs daily assignments within the Courthouse as well as other buildings in the judicial complex. This position will monitor the ingress and egress of citizens visiting the judicial building as well as employees. This position will be responsible for escorting detainees to and from courtrooms and monitoring activity of detainee while court is in session. Escorts detainees to and from courtrooms; Maintains court docket schedule set by Judges calendar; Maintains Juror/Witness security; Maintains order in the courtroom; Enforces all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; Arrests individuals who violate laws and ordinances; Serves civil court process and warrants; Monitors ingress and egress of citizens and employees; Notifies jail of changes of Court hearings pertaining to in-custody defendants; Obeys all lawful orders of the Court; Opens and closes building and courtrooms, inspects courtrooms for security issues; Completes information for dockets and other hearings; Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively recognizing actual or potential dangers, and determine proper course of action; Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Local, State and Federal officers, groups, and with citizens from varied racial, ethnic or economic backgrounds; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; Ability to operate emergency vehicles, radios, firearms, DUI enforcement and fingerprinting equipment and other law enforcement equipment; Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties; Ability to remember details; problem solve effectively and make sound decisions; Ability to respond quickly, maintain composure, self-restraint and emotional control in stressful, difficult, dangerous, or criminal situations; Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization; Ability to utilize tact, discretion, courtesy and respect for individual rights; Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; Knowledge of court rules and procedures and ability to render credible testimony in a court of law; Knowledge of law enforcement administration and organization, contemporary management/supervision principles, County and Departmental Policies and Procedures, all appropriate criminal laws, including city ordinances and appropriate administrative laws relative to public employment including local ordinances, crime prevention activities, use and care of county equipment, and contemporary law enforcement, technologies, methods, and practices recognized in the law enforcement community; Knowledge of law enforcement techniques and federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; Knowledge of patrol procedures, criminal investigation techniques, criminal identification, records maintenance and radio procedures; Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern police work and the laws governing arrest, custody of prisoners, search and seizure and rules of evidence; Skill in interpersonal, oral and written communication; Skill in the use and care of various firearms and law enforcement equipment, including skill in safe and effective use of self-defense weapons and methods.
