Job Description

Seasonal (SEAS)
Position Job Description:
Responsible for controlling use of town waterways, beaches and landings; maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and providing a security presence; all other work as required. Work can be conducted during day, evening hours and may include overnight shifts during Summer Season. Provides a highly visible security presence at Town marinas, Town ways to water and Beaches. Observing for criminal activity and suspicious behavior, safety hazards and individuals in need of assistance. Upon observation, individual according to training may need to request support from Departmental/Division personnel or Barnstable Police Department.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school degree with experience in security; knowledge of waterfront practices, rules and regulations and pertinent maritime laws and beach regulations; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Class D driver's license.
Additional Qualifications:
Be familiar with advantages, limitations and special danger involving operating a vehicle an interacting with the public at night. Thorough knowledge of harbor and waterway regulations and proper procedures. Knowledge of general maintenance and mechanical repair work. Ability to work tactfully with the public. General knowledge of Coast Guard regulations and procedures. Knowledge and ability to operate small boats and be highly competent in overall boating skills. CPR/First Responder or ability to become certified.
