School Security Officer

K-8 School Environment Position Overview The School Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and orderly school environment. This position focuses on prevention, visibility, relationship building, and rapid response, ensuring that students, staff, and families feel secure throughout the school day. The ideal candidate is calm, observant, student centered and committed to supporting a positive school culture. Key Responsibilities Campus Safety & Supervision
  • Monitor school entrances, hallways, common areas, and outdoor spaces to ensure safety and compliance with school procedures.
  • Greet and screen visitors; verify identification and ensure adherence to school check in protocols.
  • Supervise arrival, dismissal, lunch, and transitions to maintain order and student safety.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of doors, gates, and security systems. Student Support & Relationship Building
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students to promote trust and cooperation.
  • Use de-escalation strategies to support students experiencing conflict or dysregulation.
  • Assist staff with maintaining a safe and supportive environment during high traffic times and school events. Incident Prevention & Response
  • Respond promptly to safety concerns, disturbances, or emergencies.
  • Follow school protocols for crisis response, including lockdowns, evacuations, and medical emergencies.
  • Document incidents accurately and communicate with administrators as required.
  • Support enforcement of school policies in a fair, consistent, and student-centered manner. Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to maintain a coordinated approach to safety.
  • Participate in safety training, drills, and professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with families and visitors while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Qualifications Required
  • Criminal Justice Degree
  • Experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, military, or school-based supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with children and adults.
  • Ability to remain calm, observant, and professional in stressful situations.
  • Training or willingness to be trained in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and emergency response. Preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly valued. Skills & Attributes
