Active Secret, eligible for Top Secret Position overview Akamai Intelligence is seeking a Supervisory Access Security Officer (SASO) to lead and manage a team of Access Security Officers (ASOs) supporting the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) at Fort George G. Meade. The SASO is responsible for day-to-day supervision of access control and screening operations, ensuring consistent adherence to Post Orders, security policies, and customer requirements while maintaining a safe and secure environment for personnel, visitors, and assets. The role combines direct leadership, scheduling, quality assurance, and coordination with government counterparts, with the ability to perform ASO duties when needed. Key responsibilities Provide daily supervision, leadership, and direction to a team of Access Security Officers, ensuring all posts are staffed and operating in accordance with Post Orders and established procedures. Oversee physical security screening and access control operations, including the use of metal detection equipment, X-ray screening equipment, and advanced imaging technology equipment. Coordinate and approve duty rosters, shift schedules, post assignments, and coverage plans to meet mission requirements, including shift work, weekends, holidays, and surge support. Monitor performance of ASOs at the lobby desk and other designated posts to ensure consistent enforcement of access control requirements and professional customer service. Conduct spot checks, beginning-of-day and end-of-day inspections, and quality-assurance reviews to verify compliance with procedures, Post Orders, and security policies. Serve as the primary on-shift point of contact for government representatives and facility management regarding physical access control and front-line security issues. Oversee escort operations for visitors, vendors, and other personnel; ensure logs, visitor badges, and escorts are managed in accordance with site procedures. Supervise operation and monitoring of access control systems, including report generation, temporary badge issuance, and monitoring of access events; review logs and reports for anomalies or trends. Ensure regular security patrols are executed in accordance with established routes and schedules, and that observations, suspected violations, and incidents are promptly reported and documented. Oversee package acceptance and courier deliveries, key control, and associated documentation to maintain accountability and chain-of-custody requirements. Review incident reports, irregularity logs, and safety hazard reports; initiate follow-up actions, conduct basic fact-finding, and elevate issues to management and the government as required. Train, coach, and mentor ASOs on screening techniques, customer service, report writing, Post Orders, and proper use of security equipment and systems. Assist with onboarding and qualification of new ASOs, including validation of training completion, certification of post readiness, and periodic refresher training. Support performance management activities, including providing input on evaluations, recognizing strong performance, and identifying and addressing performance or conduct issues in coordination with management and HR. Ensure all team members follow applicable security policies, Post Orders, and company procedures, and maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and information protection requirements. Perform ASO duties as needed to maintain coverage, respond to contingencies, or support high-volume periods. Required qualifications Minimum of 3-5 years of security screening or physical security experience in a government, military, or similar high-security environment, including at least 1-2 years in a lead, senior, or supervisory role (e.g., shift lead, sergeant, or equivalent).Hands-on experience operating:
Metal detection equipment X-ray screening equipment Advanced imaging technology equipment Strong understanding of physical access control principles, screening procedures, and incident reporting requirements. Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, including coordinating shifts, coverage, and changing priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with government personnel, visitors, and teammates and to prepare clear, concise reports. Proven reliability, attention to detail, and sound judgment in security-sensitive situations. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and to perform screening, patrol, and supervisory observation duties throughout the shift. Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and meet all suitability requirements for work on-site at Fort George G. Meade. Preferred qualifications Prior experience supervising or leading security personnel in a federal, DoD, DCSA, or similar environment. Prior military, law enforcement, or equivalent protective security leadership experience. Familiarity with intrusion detection, CCTV, and automated access control platforms (e.g., badge systems, video management systems), including report review and basic troubleshooting. Current security or protection-related certification (e.g., ASIS, state guard card/license, where applicable). Work environment and physical requirements On-site supervisory role in a controlled-access federal facility. Ability to lift and move equipment or packages up to 25-35 lbs, as required. (You can adjust to your standard physical requirement range.) Ability to stand, walk, observe, and supervise screening and patrol operations for the majority of the shift. May require shift work, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours to support mission requirements, including emergency or surge operations.
