DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS QUESTIONS Position Description Summary Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Campus Safety Associate. The primary responsibility of the Campus Safety Associate (CSA) is to maintain the safety and security of the campus community. The CSA will participate in the prevention, detection, and investigation of safety hazards on the campus. The CSA also works with contract security supervision to ensure that the security needs of the College are met. In addition, the CSA may be required to direct other College personnel in the event of an emergency in the absence of the Campus Safety Manager or Assistant Manager. Successful candidates must pass a background check including drug/alcohol dependency screening and must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position. Core Competencies and Qualifications The most successful candidate will have a career that reflects the following competencies and qualifications. However, education, experience, and training that demonstrates proficiency and the ability to perform the essential duties will be evaluated for equivalency to the education, competencies, and experience qualifications listed below.? High School Diploma or equivalent, some college courses a plus. Valid U.S. Driver's License. CPR/AED and First Aid certified (to be completed within 6 months of hire) Demonstrated working knowledge of security operations, including patrol procedures, incident response, and emergency protocols. Ability to perform under stressful and sometimes hazardous conditions (to include inclement weather) Ability to follow and clearly communicate instructions, including assisting in the issuance of directives during urgent or emergency situations. Must pass a criminal background investigation. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite / Microsoft 365 Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in: De-escalation techniques, customer service focus, verbal/written communication, adapting to changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.

The most successful candidate will have a career that might include the following: Bilingual or multilingual communication skills. Five (5) or more years of experience in law enforcement, fire/EMS, military service, security operations, or a related public safety field. Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Dispatch or communications center experience in a public safety or security environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to Observe/detect/ identify individuals, safety hazards, and criminal elements within their patrol areas. Act calmly and authoritatively in emergency situations; utilize emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers, etc. and perform life saving techniques such as CPR and basic First Aid. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Support Henry Ford College's Mission Statement, underlying principles, policies, and procedures. Act as a Campus Safety Authority. Write specific incident reports, log, parking citations, and lost & found. Operate security and safety equipment including, but not limited to, computers, motor vehicles, traffic control devices, and firefighting/medical equipment. Conduct investigations of incidents, as assigned. Maintain department equipment. Have a basic understanding of security system operations (e.g., CCTV, access control). Respond to and assist with medical related calls, emergency situations, reported criminal activity, and all other request for service, e.g., Safe Walks or escorts. Physically patrol campus properties and survey the campus to report security and safety related vulnerabilities. Be flexible
  • Campus Safety is a 24/7 operations and may require a flexible work schedule with weekend coverage on an as needed basis.
Monitor contract security personnel. Ensure a climate that welcomes, celebrates, and promotes respect for diversity and inclusiveness. Foster a positive working and learning environment, by maintaining a climate of collaboration, fairness, cooperation, and professionalism. Ensure that the office functions in an efficient and effective manner with respect to operational policy and procedures. Participate in department training or professional development. Develop a positive relationship with the college community and provide exceptional customer service to all College stakeholders (students, faculty & staff, community members, etc.). Perform other related duties as assigned.
