Position Type:
Full-Time Position Summary Teachers First is seeking Security Officers for The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA), a new public school opening in Fall 2026. The Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for students, staff, families, and visitors. This position is responsible for monitoring school grounds, preventing and responding to safety concerns, enforcing school policies, and supporting a culture of academic excellence and respectful behavior. The ideal candidate will possess strong observation skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to fostering a welcoming and secure educational environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work closely with school administration to establish and maintain a culture of academic excellence and positive student behavior. Patrol school buildings, grounds, and parking areas to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors. Monitor entrances, exits, and visitor access to school facilities. Observe and assess situations, address rule violations, and take appropriate action when necessary. Monitor student activity in hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, common areas, arrival periods, dismissal periods, and other school functions. Prepare written reports documenting incidents, unusual occurrences, safety concerns, property damage, or unauthorized activity. Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances or security concerns. Contact emergency personnel, including police, fire, or medical services, when situations require immediate intervention. Assist in preserving order and protecting school property. Oversee key and access fob distribution and inventory. Conduct iCHAT background checks as assigned. Escort staff, students, visitors, and vendors as necessary. Assist with emergency preparedness and safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by administration. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Knowledge of security, law enforcement, or school safety procedures preferred. Successful completion of safety or security training coursework preferred. Working knowledge of security operations and safety practices. Ability to effectively enforce school policies and maintain a safe educational environment. Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Additional Requirements Successful completion of a criminal background check. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record. Ability to utilize a personal vehicle during work hours to patrol school grounds and parking areas when necessary. Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with school leadership and staff.
