General Description:
William Woods University is accepting applications for a full-time Campus Safety Officer. The Department of Campus Safety provides 24/7 safety and security services for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests. William Woods University offers employees and their dependents the opportunity to enroll in undergraduate, master's, or doctoral coursework for credit at free or reduced cost. Employees are eligible for undergraduate coursework after three months of service. Eligibility for master's or doctoral programs (including EdS) begins after six months of service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Observe and report all suspicious activity Conduct vehicle and foot patrols Respond to emergency calls for service Perform building lock and unlock duties Enforce parking regulations Provide special event standby support Assist local law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS on campus Perform other duties as assigned by command staff
Position Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age Must have one year of security experience or prior service in the military, law enforcement, or Department of Corrections (DOC) in lieu of experience; experienced applicants will be given priority Must possess a valid driver's license, pass a motor vehicle background check, and adhere to the university vehicle policy Must successfully pass a criminal background check Must successfully pass a drug screening Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to follow detailed instructions High school diploma or GED required Must successfully complete a six (6)-month probationary period
Typical Physical Demands:
Must be physically fit Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs several times per shift Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, bend, walk, or stand for extended periods Ability to perform duties in extreme temperature conditions Ability to work irregular hours Ability to speak and read English fluently Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Effective mobility to move freely and quickly throughout campus and office environments
Work Schedule:
This is a 12-month, non-exempt position requiring 40 hours per week, typically consisting of four 10-hour shifts. The role includes holidays and may require occasional mandatory overtime.
