POSITION TITLE
Security Guard STATUS:
175 Day Employee, plus an additional 24 days when summer school is held at the employee's assigned location.FLSA STATUS

Building AdministratorPOSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting in securing a safe environment for all students, faculty and staff. Works under direct supervision of assigned building administrator.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Walk indoor school property and monitor the movement of students, staff and visitors. Assess the safety of the premises via walk-thru checks and inspections. Maintain a high degree of visibility in assigned areas. Roam assigned areas when students occupy them. Demonstrate complete engagement in assigned area activity. Transport students to and from administrator's offices when requested. Ascertain why a student is not in an assigned area. Question any strangers in the school building or on campus. Act as the "eyes and ears" of the administration through constant observation and by interviewing any individuals not in assigned areas. Maintain a constant accurate flow of that information to the administration. Report information to the proper authority in a timely manner. Provide "eyewitness" information to administration for future security use. Interact in a professional and controlled manner at all times. Remain as neutral as possible in a dispute. Be a role model of professionalism for all students. Wear all identification that is required by the administration at all times. Encourage students to maintain order at all times. Encourage students to cooperate with staff at all times. Identify physical impairments around the school building or campus that would impede safety or security. Maintain a professional demeanor in all situations. Manage disruptive student behavior in a professional manner at all times. Write all required reports, memos, or necessary communications. Be aware of and maintain confidentiality issues for students, staff, and parents. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all school matters. Monitor students during bus drop off, arrival, and after school. Circulate throughout cafeteria during breakfast and lunch periods. Monitor students in cafeteria waiting in line and at tables while eating. Inspect restrooms to ensure students are not loitering or damaging facilities. Request assistance of person of the opposite sex when needed for restroom inspections. Report all damage or writing on walls to the administration office. Walk and/or drive district property and monitor the vehicular movements of students, staff, and visitors. Engage visitors in conversation to determine whether the person should be on the campus. Communicate with students and check I.D. badges as necessary. Direct traffic on district property. Maintain vigilance regarding any suspicious vehicles or person and notify the appropriate administrator or police department. Physically check all outside doors to every building on every shift to ensure that they are locked. Vary patterns of movement on patrol to prevent setting identifiable pattern. Assist with monitoring students assigned to detention or other after-school activities. Other duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all stakeholders. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. Strong attention to detail. Ability to accomplish tasks that are interrupted and prioritize immediate needs of others. Ability to quickly analyze situations and determine an appropriate course of action. Ability to write effective documents and possess verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to apply common sense understanding to varied situations. Demonstrate initiative to act without being asked.BASIC REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Missouri driver's license required. Security guard training and/or certification preferred. Prior experience in a security-related field preferred. Prior experience working with youth preferred. Positive, caring manner with students. Friendly, helpful attitude in working with students and staff.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone/email and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, running, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motions. Requires ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods to complete work. Requires ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and ability to work in noisy, stressful, and crowded environments. Ability to work in a variety of locations throughout the District and requires reliable transportation to meetings and events inside and outside of the District.
