THE POSITION
The Department of Agriculture is offering an exciting opportunity to serve as a Security Officer 1 at Presque Isle Downs Racetrack. This role plays an important part in keeping the Detention Barn safe and secure each day. It is a meaningful position for someone who wants to support fair racing and protect critical procedures. Join the Department of Agriculture as a Security Officer 1 and contribute to the smooth operation of racetrack activities.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position helps maintain the safety and proper operation of the Detention Barn at Presque Isle Downs Racetrack. As a Security Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:
Barn Security:
Check individuals entering the Detention Barn and verify that each person is properly licensed
Access Control:
Prevent unauthorized entry and ensure the facility remains secure at all times
Sample Protection:
Ensure samples are locked and assist veterinary staff with end-of-day procedures
Horse Tagging:
Tag designated horses in the paddock area for testing in the Detention Barn
Claim Notification:
Inform veterinary and livestock staff of claimed horses selected for testing so proper paperwork can be completed
Operational Support:
Perform additional duties when staffing shortages occur to maintain daily operations Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Temporary full-time employment ending on November 6, 2026 Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may vary based on racing schedule

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Requirements:
You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Experience in Security, Corrections, or Law Enforcement Experience providing controlled access to secure or restricted areas Experience verifying credentials, licenses and authorizations Experience in documenting and maintaining security logs or reports Experience working with or around horses
