GENERAL DEFINITION
An employee in this position provides public safety to Legislators, House employees, visitors and the public by enforcing all applicable laws of the Commonwealth and the House of Representatives. Assignments are performed under the supervision of the officer's Shift Supervisor of the Department in accordance with CORE established policies and procedures. This is a full-time position. This position requires the employee to be in attendance on session days and be able to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Deputy maintains close surveillance of assigned areas within the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to preserve law and order, prevent crime, detect safety hazards and provide appropriate medical services. Investigates complaints and detects unusual or suspicious behavior for the purpose of preventing violations of law and breaches of the peace. Gathers information and completes reports for presentation to the appropriate authorities including entry of daily logs into the department reporting system. Answers a wide variety of questions and performs any other task required to assist the public. Controls access to buildings and areas; checks the authorization and identification of persons and denies entry to unauthorized persons entering the buildings. Inspects assigned areas for damage or dangerous conditions, which may cause injury to persons or property. Arriving at the scene of accidents or other emergency situations as appropriate, responds according to scope of authority. Provide safe escorts to the various parking facilities for House Members/Staff. When assigned, assumes the duties of Sergeant at Arms on the House Floor during Session, Dispatcher and Access Coordinator. Maintains certification of valid Pennsylvania Act 235, MPOETC Firearms Qualification, First-Aid, CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, Taser, Tactical Handcuffing, Oleoresin Capsicum, Monadnock Expandable Baton, Defensive Tactics and Management of Aggressive Behavior. Correctly deploy the weapons that are issued by the Department. De-escalate and safely resolve security situations. Review CCTV for informational purposes relating to internal investigations as requested and approved by CCO management. Ensures uniform remains clean and well-maintained and is worn while on duty. Performs related work as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of security requirements established in legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. Proficient in report writing. Effective communicator, both verbal/written and computer skills with familiarity of MS Office. Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions in emergency situations. Ability to train staff in security and safety procedures. Ability to follow orders and directives effectively. Knowledge of Commonwealth contingency plans during emergency situations. Relevant weapons license and training. Clear criminal record. Strong commitment to the well-being of others. Neat, professional appearance. Capacity to work on your feet for extended periods. Ability to work effectively as a team player. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be regularly required to perform physical activity that includes moving about the work area, walking/running extended distances, standing, sitting, bending, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and smelling. The team member will be frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. He or she is required to have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Lifting requirements:
The team member will be required to lift, push, pull, lower and/or move up to 10 lbs. regularly, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Ability to perform within prescribed office procedures and decorum; maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, associates, legislators, and legislative staff; deal with the public in a professional, cooperative and courteous manner. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience in a related field required; special consideration given to additional education and training. Valid ACT 235 Certification required within 90 days of hire or ACT 120 with the ability to obtain a waiver for ACT 235 within 90 days. Valid MPOETC Firearms Qualification is required within 90 days of hire. Valid Concealed Carry Permit preferred. Job Type:
