This role involves monitoring and patrolling the campus grounds, responding to emergencies, enforcing campus policies, and providing assistance to those in need. The specialist works closely with campus security officers and other campus staff to ensure a peaceful campus environment. Duties may include operating surveillance equipment, controlling access to buildings, conducting safety inspections, and reporting any suspicious activities or security breaches. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Reports all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the Coordinator of Emergency Management-Safety and Security. Conduct monthly audit of all emergency alert devices to include AED and stop the bleed kits. Establish door locking and unlocking schedules each semester. Attend event walkthroughs as needed to obtain event information and provide security related information. Plan, initiate and follow up on security plans for all events. Overseeing execution on the day of the event. Assist in the parking enforcement appeal process. Assist the Coordinator of Emergency Management- Safety and Security on any special projects or emergencies that may arise. Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred. Monitors fire and intrusion alarm system. Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons. Permits authorized persons to enter property, ensures all personnel entering the complex are properly identified, and maintains a log of all issued permits. Assist in issuing parking permits to staff and faculty. Manage the check-in and check-out process for vendors and contractors, including parking permits. Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff. Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at campus entrance to maintain orderly flow. Writes reports on incidents occurring at the complex. Occasionally drives college vehicles. Partner with school administrators to develop and maintain positive relationships with students and staff, fostering an environment of collaboration and support for the safety of all. Assist law enforcement officers attending training at TSC and provide sign-in sheets for attendance tracking. Creates the end of year report showing final attendance of law enforcement officers utilizing TSC facilities for training. Breaks down report into multiple categories. Weekly inspection of Eidman Hall to ensure it is in suitable condition for training. Assist in the creation and processing of invoices for BPD. Compiles data regarding events, location and times of events, law enforcement officers and security officers working events to include hours worked. Perform real-time monitoring of security camera systems for crime detection, prevention and incident response. Assist in troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting security camera and surveillance systems to ensure continuous operation, optimal performance, and effective monitoring capabilities for safety and security operations. Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite. Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies and guidelines. Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers. Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by Texas Southmost College (TSC). Supports the values and institutional goals as defined in the College's Strategic Plan. Participates in the development of outcomes, monitors assessment of those appropriate outcomes, and assists in the development of plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes. Participates in the process for systematic review and evaluation per the institutional effectiveness model adopted by the College. Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events. Performs other duties as assigned. Strong understanding of security operations, emergency response, and incident management. Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and external security personnel. Knowledge of access control systems, fire alarm systems, and emergency preparedness protocols. Proficient in using security software and systems for monitoring and reporting. Experience with QR code scanning and digital reporting tools. Familiarity with institutional parking enforcement and access control protocols. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction. Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, College employees and the public. Ability to perform and excel in a high-tech all-digital environment. High level of energy and good sense of humor with the capacity for extraordinary time and effort demands. Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheet software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others. Required Education and Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education and experience required High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) OR in lieu of a diploma, 7 years of experience in the security field with 5 years of experience in a supervisory role. Must be at least 21 years old. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and background check. Preferred Education and Experience Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. Security field experience in an educational setting. 10 years of experience in the security field with 7 years of experience in a supervisory role. Certificates and Licensures A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and background check.
