TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Classified Salary Range Benefits Available Security•Security Officer Moses Lake High School 7.5 hrs per day/180 days per year Shift time is depending on building needs.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The security officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a positive school environment by enforcing school regulations and maintaining order inside and outside a school building. The position Provides support for after hours, extra-curricular activities/events at assigned buildings and all district sponsored events, i.e. Lion's Field and a variety of assistance to students and staff.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or G.E.D., higher education preferred. A combination of experience and training in a related field and/or previous work with adolescent students is preferred. Record of dependability, punctuality, flexibility and strong attendance required. Genuine desire and ability to work effectively with a diverse student and staff population. Ability and willingness to work outside of school hours for various events both onsite and offsite. Genuine desire and ability to maintain high standards of appearance, professionalism and to be a positive role model to all. Must be in good physical condition. Required to stand for prolonged periods; work outdoors in inclement weather; deal with distraught and/or potentially upset people. Ability to judge ambiguous situations and deal with them appropriately. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with a demonstrated safe driving record. Ability to apply appropriate discipline in accordance with district policies and procedures. Comply with all District policies and operational procedures. Maintain district-assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality Ability to manage change and resolve conflict. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations or during negative contacts with staff and students. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with local law enforcement agencies. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Interpret as needed if an individual possesses multiple language skills. Ability to maintain records.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times; demonstrating respect and courtesy to students, staff, and parents. Visibly patrols building and parking lot premises: monitors locker rooms, bathrooms, hallways, grounds and adjacent areas. Ensures that students are not wandering the halls during class, assemblies, and parking lots or loitering in the restrooms. Provide security services for after hours, extra-curricular activities/events as needed at district sponsored events (overtime required); sign-up for events in advance and cover unfilled assignments as directed. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents. Gathers data on incidents; prepares reports and related documentation; and refers cases to appropriate authorities as directed. Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations. Responds to emergencies, security concerns; detains and reports unauthorized persons in accordance with established District and school procedures. Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations and with emergency drills; supervises and directs pupil movement. Ensure knowledge of current security procedures and implement in the course of regular duties. Locates students as requested by school administration.
Directs visitors to school office:
provides assistance as necessary. Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours. Maintain punctuality and excellent attendance; not to exceed leave allocations. Use the camera system and 2-way radios in the course duties Work with custodians when appropriate. Attends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by state law or directed by the district, including Public School Safety and Security Training, Safety Care, and annual Safe Schools. Obtain a CPR and First Aid Card Maintain district assigned email; reading and responding to messages in a timely manner. Perform other related duties as assigned.
