Security Specialist -8.0 hours/day @
Othello High School Job Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide a safe secure environment for students, staff and guests on campus. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community Helps to create and maintain a working relationship with the local police and fire and rescue departments. Assist in the development and implementation of action plans to provide a safe environment and immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, auto accidents and others. Regulate student's behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, parking lots and other open areas. Assist with controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance. Request assistance from school administration and/or police when necessary. Detain students suspected of narcotics, tobacco, or alcoholic infractions. Report to school administration and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as appropriate, on accidents, incidents and violations of law. Patrol and confront unauthorized persons for questioning, check for passes and identification cards as needed. Assist law enforcement officers as directed by school administration. Direct traffic and parking on campus; check vehicles for proper parking authorization; determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas. Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations. Ensure doors/gates are locked and opened at designated times determined by the principal. Supervise and patrol assigned school activities. Observe and report violations of safety and health codes. Demonstrate problem-solving and responsible decision-making skills. Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate by the supervisor and/orOTHER FUNCTIONS
Maintain and project professional appearance as it relates to job performance. Patrol and set up for after-school events as assigned Assume fire alarm responsibilities as assigned by principal. Monitor security surveillance equipment to protect facilities and assets. Submit work orders as needed.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Required to stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to roam campus frequently and consistently to maintain the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors. Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to perform tasks requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion. Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or GED Basic Computer skills and ability to learn new programs as needed Valid Washington State Driver's License and complete 5-year driving abstract (available from Department of Licensing) First aid and CPR training Ability to work flexible and extended hours Ability to work well with high school age students Good communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records Ability to communicate clearly with staff, students, and guests Ability to follow safe work procedures Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling student and non-student records Ability to identify and professionally react to student misconduct and safety issuesTerms of Employment:
