SCIDpda supports economic development, cultural preservation, and community sustainability through strong partnerships with residents and businesses. Position Purpose (Joint Role): This position reflects a collaborative partnership between El Centro de la Raza and SCIDpda, supporting shared goals of community safety, cultural respect, and neighborhood stability. The Daytime Security Officer serves as a visible, welcoming presence ensuring safety for children, families, residents, staff, and visitors across shared and adjacent spaces.JOB SUMMARY
The Daytime Security Officer provides consistent daytime safety coverage during high-traffic hours, including childcare drop-off/pick-up, resident activity, and community use. This position is part of a shared security model, supporting both childcare and residential operations. Responsibilities may shift based on daily needs, with priority given to child safety, high-traffic periods, and active incidents. Hours currently will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7am to 6pm with a one (1) hour lunch; but subject to change based on community needs. All overtime must be approved in advance in accordance with organizational policy.This role focuses on:
Visible presence and deterrence De-escalation and community-based safety Monitoring access and activity Supporting both childcare and residential environments The officer will engage respectfully with a diverse, multilingual community and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Security & Safety Operations Patrol assigned areas, including: Jose Marti Child Development Center Childcare areas and playgrounds Property perimeter (along landmarked fence) Internal Drive (from Golf to 12th) Parking lot and surrounding grounds Parking Garage and external common areas (i.e. the breezeway and courtyard) Monitor entrances, exits, and high-traffic areas Provide a visible presence to deter unsafe or unauthorized activity Respond to incidents, disturbances, and emergencies Write clear and detailed incident reports Coordinate with emergency services and other building staff (residential and eldercare) when necessary Assist with securing areas during safety incidents (e.g., temporarily boarding or restricting access to damaged areas) using basic tools when appropriate and when maintenance staff are unavailable Community Engagement Provide customer-service-oriented security Interact respectfully with: Families and children Residents Staff and visitors Use de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques Support a welcoming, culturally respectful environment Access & Monitoring Support safe access during childcare hours Monitor unauthorized individuals on campus Assist with enforcing site policies respectfully Observe and report maintenance or safety concerns Collaboration Work in coordination with: Jose Marti CDC and El Centro de la Raza security SCIDpda staff and partners Communicate patterns, concerns, and recurring issues Participate in joint safety coordination effortsESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Passion for the mission and vision of El Centro de la Raza and SCIDpda Ability to work independently, maintain a sense of priorities, meet deadlines and have the capacity to coordinate multiple tasks. Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively. High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license with good driving record Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm under pressure Basic computer skills (reports, communication) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience working with diverse communities preferred Criminal background check requiredPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other community languages) Prior security or community safety experience Experience in de-escalation or trauma-informed responseTRAINING PROVIDED

Work may be both inside or outside of the building and on the El Centro de la Raza campus. May have to work in inclement weather. May be required to work additional hours, evenings, or weekends based on operational needs, with advance approval as required by organizational policy. Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds with each arm, or a total of 80 pounds. Operates power/hand tools required in the area of assignment. Works under the direction of the Security Supervisor and follows established procedures and guidelines. All overtime must be approved in advance in accordance with organizational policyPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
