Job Description

Southside Behavioral Health provides individualized culturally competent care in our communities, by supporting wellness and quality of life in a recovery-oriented environment and professional manner. Covering the counties of Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick, VA. Our behavioral health services are backed with community involvement and values. This position at Southside Behavioral Health works with the Director of Prevention and will be a member of the Prevention Department. This position must use prevention strategies that have a demonstrated evidence-base, and are appropriate for the population(s) focus. The person in this position must work in collaboration with the Prevention Director to respond to information requests in a timely fashion, assist in entering data into the Performance Based Prevention System, and submit reports by established deadlines and will request technical assistance as needed. This non-exempt position is responsible for developing and maintaining community awareness in each county for the purpose of promoting substance abuse prevention programs for at-risk youth by assessing community needs and active coordination with other agencies. Responsibilities Organizes and maintains prevention programs in each county, including meetings on a regular basis Keeps a calendar up to date and shares that calendar with prevention team; Keeps a daily log of activities and tasks to be reported in the PBPS system Actively works with community agencies/resources in a liaison role. Conducts merchant education at tobacco retailer locations across the three county area of coverage as well as problem gambling merchant education as appropriate. Creates prevention training materials and participates in tabling events; whether during the week or on the weekends; flex schedule is appropriate. Collects monthly data from participating agencies for reporting requirements Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, consistent with Board policies and procedures Qualifications Bachelor's degree (required) in a Human Services or Health Education field (preferred). At least two years experience with providing educational opportunities and/or training to adults; experience with speaking and making presentations to groups; Experience with community outreach and conversations with stakeholders; willingness to develop new relationships and partnerships in the community; Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
