Job Description

Job Summary:
The Transportation Security Officer is responsible for safely and securely transporting inmates, detainees, and residents between designated locations. You will be tasked with ensuring vehicles are in safe and proper working order, operating in a legal and safe manner while always maintaining control and the enforcement of security protocols during transportation.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.
  • Transports individuals, documentation, and possible property, between various designated locations (i.e. transport prisoners or detainees between correctional or detention facilities, medical appointments, etc.)
  • Maintains accurate and detailed logs/records of transport, passenger, and vehicle activities.
  • Takes custody of prisoner/detainee upon arrival at facility accordance to established security procedures and secures prisoners within vehicle for transport.
  • Monitor activities and behavior of prisoners/detainees during transport and while in custody, maintaining safety. Remaining alert to potential security threats. Responds quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Safely operate vehicle(s); always following all laws, safety policy and procedures, and legal measures.
  • Follow safety policies and ensure injuries or accidents are treated and reported in a timely and accurate manner. Take appropriate action of care by performing CPR/first aid or obtaining medical assistance as needed for health-related emergencies.
  • Work with facility officers and team members to ensure smooth transition and coordination of pick-up and drop-off points. Upon arrival at facility, safely assists inmates/detainees in exiting the van and reaching the designated area(s).
  • Accurately complete, maintain, and review all processes various reports and documentation required (i.e. transport logs, pre/post trip checks, etc.). Documentation must be complete and submitted within policy specifications. Report any damage or defects to vehicles immediately.
  • Immediately reports traffic accidents, requesting police or ambulance service as needed. Completes company accident reports.
  • Maintains professional and appropriate relationships and communications with fellow staff members, other agencies, inmates/detainees, and the general public.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Must achieve and maintain Level lll Security Officer Certification, at minimum, to be eligible for this position.
  • Comply with State, Federal, and DOT regulations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful Permanent Resident and authorized to work in the United States. Document proof of citizenship is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and fluency in English required. Depending on assigned area, knowledge of Spanish or other languages may be helpful.
  • Must have a current valid Driver's License with clear MVR for three (3) years.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • No felony convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions in the last 5 years.
  • Attention to detail; able to assess and evaluate situations effectively; identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Able to deal effectively with combative or uncooperative individuals; deescalate and mediate conflict with tact while maintaining the safety and security of all parties.
  • Must be reliable and capable of working independently and remain calm in case of emergency.
  • Satisfactory completion of a company training program in policies and procedures, sexual harassment, CPR, First Aid, safety techniques, sensitivity training, and map reading, or demonstrated competence based on previous employment experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws relating to transporting and custody of prisoners/detainees, including company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general safety practices, legal liabilities and responsibilities.
  • Experience in law enforcement, corrections, or military is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • This job requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion at times. Ability to lift, push, pull, and position patients frequently. Carry moderate loads.
  • Ability to perform considerable reaching, stooping, and bending.
  • Remain alert during long transportation shifts.
  • Occasional need to handle emergency or crisis situations. Respond to physical altercations and restraining and/or securing offenders.
  • Exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Able to be outside in various outdoor weather conditions, elements, and temperatures for long periods of time.
  • Occasional exposure to the risk of bloodborne diseases or illnesses. Able withstand direct or indirect exposure to OC spray.
  • Frequent transferring of various size individuals into and out of vehicle and designated locations.
  • Remain alert and awake while on duty for long periods of time operating/driving company vehicles during all hours of the day/night. Able to sleep in passenger seat while moving when not driving to get adequate rest and maintain safe driving practices. Special Requirements
  • Shifts are subject to change based on company needs. Must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment screening to include but not limited to a comprehensive background investigation, federal criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, motor vehicle records check, and DOT physical health card.
  • Required to maintain security clearance and specific state and federal licenses, post-employment.
