The City of Sherwood is recruiting 2 outstanding, energetic individuals to help lead our summer camps at Sherwood Center for the Arts. Come be a part of our ArtSmart summer program and make a difference in the lives of dozens of young people! Lead Camp Counselors will organize and lead a variety of youth activities for our Arts & Rec summer camps, which encompass art, crafts, science, drama, games, outings, and a variety of recreational activities. While leading these activities you will also support the physical, social, and cognitive development of the participants. We are seeking candidates with the knowledge, skill and enthusiasm for working with children and youth in a team-oriented environment. This position organizes and leads arts and recreational activities around a central theme. This is a seasonal position, reporting to the Center for the Arts Manager. This position will work primarily with the ArtSmart "Arts & Rec" summer day camp program held at Sherwood Center for the Arts, serving ages 6-13. The schedule takes place over 5 weeks in the summer, with approximately 5 hours of mandatory paid staff training occurring during the week of June 22. Candidates will be expected to be available to work: June 29-July 1, Monday-Thursday from 9 am-4:30 pm July 6-10, Monday-Friday from 12:00-4:30 pm July 13-17, Monday-Friday from 9 am-4:30 pm July 20-24, Monday-Friday from 9 am-4:30 pm July 27-31, Monday-Friday from 9 am-4:30 pm Candidates who are available for the entirety of this summer session will be given strong preference. Examples of Duties Plans, organizes and conducts arts and recreation programs, special activities and outings. Ensures appropriate safety and security of facility, activities, programs and participants. May lead work of ArtSmart volunteer camp counselors. Recognizes unsafe conditions and reports to proper authorities. Performs general clerical and staff functions, including but not limited to: checking students in and out, preparing reports, calling parents/guardians, assisting with activity registration, checking out equipment, answering phones and inquiries, providing information to the public, and various general custodial tasks. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
18+; experience working/volunteering in summer camp, education/teaching, leading recreation, or related activities.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
First Aid/CPR certification at time of appointment or within a time frame determined by management. Must attend mandatory team training the week of June 22.Other Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal skills. Skilled in the leadership of broad types of arts and recreation activities, and classroom management. Personal skills in a specialty area of arts or recreation. Ability to plan and design activities appropriate for school-age students, and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and other Arts Center staff. Ability to work closely with a small team and present ideas clearly and concisely. All staff are expected to attend summer staff training, which will be held during the week of June 22nd.PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties of this position will be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, where there may be moderate to high noise levels, and differing weather conditions. Ability to instruct, plan, and supervise recreation programs efficiently. Knowledge of techniques in supervising various recreational activities and age-appropriate programming. Implement games, activities, and crafts for campers daily. Play games and activities with all campers while also supervising campers closely. Be responsible for the safety of all camp participants. Follow all safety procedures and policies that pertain to ArtSmart summer camps, including taking attendance and keeping track of every camper. Responsible for campers when taking them on offsite walking field trips.
