Job Description

About Us We are a Kanab-based guide service specializing in private canyoneering trips. Our passion is creating safe, empowering adventures for families and beginners. We believe the greatest adventure is one where guests feel secure, confident, and deeply connected to the landscape. We don't just guide guests through canyons; we teach how to move through them, turning an outing into a genuine skill-building experience. The Role We are looking for a Guide who is an exceptional instructor, an engaging storyteller, and a safety expert. While managing risk is your primary duty, your most vital role is curating the entire guest experience. You'll be the patient, encouraging leader for families, often including children or nervous first-timers, as you navigate Southern Utah's world-class slot canyons. This is a seasonal W-2 payroll position with a starting wage of $15.50 - $20.50/hr, DOE. We have a strong preference for guides who are interested in a long-term career in guiding.
What You'll Be Doing Guiding:
Leading private half-day and full-day canyoneering tours (rappelling, hiking, scrambling) in the Kanab / Greater East Zion area.
Teaching:
Patiently explaining gear, knots, and rappelling techniques to guests who have never worn a harness before.
Risk Management:
Making conservative safety decisions that prioritize the well-being of children and novice clients.
Facilitating:
Helping apprehensive guests overcome fear with encouragement and empathy (not pressure). Job Requirements 25+ years old. Availability to work May - October. High School diploma or equivalent. Current WFR and CPR certification, or willingness to get one. Valid Driver's License and clean driving record. Ability to self-manage and adapt to changing circumstances.
Preferred Personable:
You are great with kids. You know how to make a 10-year-old feel like a superhero and a nervous parent feel secure.
Patience:
You are an exceptional instructor.
Technical Knowledge:
Previous experience with technical canyoneering and familiarity with rope systems, anchors, and rescue skills.
Local Knowledge:
A passion for the geology, history, and ecology of the Kanab/Grand Staircase region. Benefits & Why Work With Us Control of your days off. Live and work in the heart of the Grand Staircase, close to Zion, Vermilion Cliffs, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon. Opportunities for growth and leadership within the company, including complimentary guided tours. Steep industry discounts with many major outdoor brands.
