Job Description

Center Overview Families First Learning Center is a non-profit preschool that is new to the Albion Community and provides services to families with children between the ages of six weeks to 12 years of age. The mission of Families First Learning Center is to provide high quality childcare services that will contribute to the growth of all children. We create conditions for families to thrive in the workforce by providing a safe and nurturing environment as their child/children begin their educational journey. We see each child through a lens that is wide enough to view the whole family. Families First is a place that provides education for staff, children, and parents. We are looking for individuals that are professional, caring, and dedicated; that want to make a positive impact in the lives of children.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Families First Learning Center teachers create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment by fostering child creativity, confidence, and independence, through highScope curriculum. Our teachers inspire children and teachers alike to learn and grow, are passionate about educational excellence, and confident in teaching children. They understand the confidential nature of the work involved and treat information gained accordingly. Our teachers are committed to making Families First successful and know that meaningful relationships with children, families, and their team are important to success. Lead Teachers plan and implement a preschool classroom in compliance with GSRP, Highscope Curriculum, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) licensing requirements. They follow all Families First Learning Center policies and procedures with minimal direct supervision. Lead Teachers direct classroom operations including leading a teacher assistant and childcare aide to facilitate daily classroom activities for preschool children. Job Description
  • Establish a developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive classroom environment, which fosters the child's development and quality education program; according to Highscope Curriculum NAEYC, GSRP, and CLASS requirements.
  • Work as a team in sharing responsibility for cleaning and organizing the classroom and aiding children in toileting, changing clothes and other personal health care needs.
  • Work as a team developing a lesson plan that individualizes for children while maintaining a balance of child-initiated and adult-initiated activities, understanding the lead teacher is responsible for accurate implementation.
  • Work as a team in assessing children using the assessment system, understanding the lead teacher is responsible for accurate data implementation and ongoing documentation.
  • Effectively supervise students at all times of the work day using a calm voice and in a patient and approachable manner; maintain and communicate accurate count throughout the day with team members.
  • Develop a positive and respectful relationship with children considering developmental levels. Able to individualize using data from observations and assessments.
  • Work with individual and small groups of students; supporting children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Direct and facilitate classroom staff and volunteers in a way that promotes their professional growth and development and participate in your own training and on-going professional development.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability during the workday and throughout the year based on program requirements.
  • Able to work flexible hours as needed for family involvement activities, home visit, recruitment events, open houses, and IEP meetings.
  • Ensue the completion of all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner per program procedures.
  • Represent Families First Learning Center in a professional and positive manner in all settings including social media.
  • Sit with children during mealtimes and model good nutritional habits including family style serving, manners and conversation.
  • Physical ability to work around small children including sitting, standing, walking, running, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
