Job Summary The University of Michigan, seeks a creative, innovative, and thoughtful person to join its Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX Office (ECRT) as a part-time, temporary legal research assistant (intern) during the spring and summer. Estimated weekly work of 25 hours. Your primary responsibility will be to research and analyze the impact of new and existing legislation regarding allegations of discrimination and harassment based on protected classes, including sexual and gender-based misconduct and claims involving the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additional responsibilities include to research the best practices of higher education regarding response to concerns and prevention efforts under Titles VI, VII, and IX of the Civil Rights Act. Responsibilities• Analyze the impact of new legislation, court decisions, and administrative rulings on university operations. Review institutional policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Help develop training materials regarding legal requirements for staff and faculty. Draft content for internal legal resources, such as website articles or newsletters detailing new compliance requirements. Attend and take notes at meetings with internal stakeholders. Projects as assigned. Required Qualifications• JD student in good standing. Proficient in legal research and writing abilities. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective and clear communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google (Gmail, Google drive, etc.) Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
